Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen)  has won a Sh5.2 billion tender to drill geothermal wells in EthiopiaThis will be the second such tender for KenGen in the horn country after it announced February that it has won part of a Sh7.6 billion contract to supply geothermal drilling services to the Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP).KenGen said it would be supplying about 30 percent of the component of phase II which translates to about $ 6.2 million (Sh620 million). It is now eying Rwanda and Djibouti for geothermal project, having hosted Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh at the Olkaria geothermal fields in Naivasha last year

Applause Applause Applause It's being run in a much better fashion than KPLC.

Wonder when price will start rising...its management team is very good also no crooks

“We’re going to add from Olkaria 1 unit 6 and Olkaria 5 +250MW, and if we use the same ratio that came out of Olkaria 280MW, we can see ksh.6 to 7bn building-in. With trend analysis, and as everything remain,KenGen shares has potential.” John Mudany

When they brought on board 280mw they got a revenue boost of ksh.9bn
Using the same trajectory/trend analysis and everything been the same if they bring on board olkaria V of 162mw and Olkaria 1 unit 6 of 90MW they
see additional ksh.6-7bn revenue

Contracted Capacity for Olkaria V is 153MW while for Olkaria 1 Unit 6 is 83MW. While Olkaria V expected COD is July 2019, Olkaria 1 Unit 6 should come somewhere in July 2021(Though they don't have a PPA yet with KPLC). Both are Capacity Plants

1) No PPAs? Hiyo ni shida!
2) What are "Capacity Plants"?

No PPA means they haven't agreed the Bulk tariffs , KPLC is not willing to give them higher tariff, there is ongoing negotiation , Though ground breaking was last year.

Capacity plants are plants which have capacity payments, (Fixed Capacity Charge Rate ,FCCR and Fixed O&M Charge Rates FOMCR) plus a small component (Variable O&M Charge Rate VOMCR)... Capacity Payment Plants receive FCCR and FOMCR even if the plant is not running (Though the plant has to be in operable conditions when required)...VOMCR is dependant on energy you buy from the plant. Both FOMCR and VOMCR are escalated with inflation.

Kengen has a very very big potential for price correction...it has to be trading at 14/- levels now.. The previous 2 years of dividend drought drived down the price to current Low price..more good news their PIBO final installment in October 2019 i think.. This time i have a feeling they might declare a generous dividend plus a bonus issue also

During 2018 AGM the Chief Finance Officer mentioned that they are exploring scrip dividend option.

I believe in 2019/2020 Financial year there will be no dividend since Kengen will be hit with Compensating tax if they distribute capital allowances which they will qualify for after commissioning Olkaria 5 in 2019/2020 financial year...once bitten twice shy

Not necessarily, they can distribute dividends from revenue from Hydro generation and the other geothermal plants.
If you listened to the link I posted, the other time the additional capacity of 280MW gave them a huge significant jump in revenue.

They have already been exempted from paying compensating tax in the finance bill 2018
