What does it mean to be 'wise'?

In what way(s) is wisdom linked to power?

To me wisdom is knowing where 'things' are.

I will use an analogy. In a kiosk or in a traditional duka you have one guy who stands behind the counter and he takes orders from customers. He has to know where everything that the customer asks is in his shop. He at all times also needs to know what is required most often and also know what quantity he has available and also when he runs out. He also needs to know what he does not have.

So assume that the kiosk is someones "mind". I will use the word mind broadly to include not just the element of a person that enables them to be aware of the world and their experiences but also emotional, intellectual, moral and physical capabilities. The customer is anything that confronts the person in the world. Anything that makes a demand on him to act, to think or to feel. It may be other people, it may be disease, it may be tasks that someone has to deal with in the world.

Wisdom is knowing what is being asked for, what is available, where it is, how to retrieve it and how to use it.

What you've said may be a part of wisdom, but it isn't wisdom. In the first place it is subjective only, and it doesn't question the world of its existence.

I know this because I found a way to wisdom. Wisdom is another person that those who seek wisdom go to. Anyway, I found her, and I saw the problems perplexing me, and using her elements I saw the King.

I have known you for many things but selfishness is not among them.

How wrong I was.

To assert that one must come to you, the sole owner of wisdom, for wisdom to manifest itself reeks of a bloated ego.

Please tell me how wrong I am.

Please.

You're quite mistaken. I have only said that wisdom is in fact a woman, and that she takes lovers, and finally she's taken me as one of her lovers.

I've also said that @Kusadikika's answer is useful but doesn't describe wisdom due to reasons I've stated.

What I haven't done is express my debt to your thoughts on this matter. They have kept me going through a tough moment.

@Kusadikika, how does your kiosk owner compare with Plato's charioteer?

Do you think Plato was wise?
