Also why should all those matatus and buses from upcountry come and park withing the city centre the whole day hapo accra, latema rd, river road, nyamakima, tea room etc. Those matatu stages on the outskirts that sonko has proposed should be used by those upcountry matatus and buses and leave the cbd to the nairobi matatus. If one wants to travel upcountry let them board a city matatu and be dropped kwa stage ya matatu za kwao huko outskirts.

Well said. Vehicles from Western should terminate at Kangemi, those from areas past Kenol at Githurai and Mombasa road at Belle vue.
In Tz no upcountry vehicle goes past Ubungo.

Metro Commuter train will need to be built first.

Govt buys 11 trains from spain for commuter train service.

This what they achieved in making you believe but actually if you remove the matatus let's say from 50 km from CBD Nairobi introduced a proper public transport system you will realize they are not an efficient distribution mechanism. There are enough reports on this done by experts gathering dust in some govt offices. You will realize that transport costs in Nairobi are much higher than more developed cities like Hong Kong

This is because the city is poorly planned or not planned at all. And the poor planning is due to corruption and land grabbing that has happened in the past 55 years. Land that was set aside for infrastructure expansion back in the 1970s was grabbed by bigwigs.

Its not just transport that is expensive. Even an activity like garbage collection is bloody expensive in Nairobi. A garbage truck would use up all its fuel stuck in traffic or be damaged by the huge pot-holes present in most Nairobi estates.

The only solution to this quagmire is to decongest the city.

The government has announced that Nairobi will be car-free on Wednesdays and Saturdays starting February 1.

Transport PS Paul Maringa on Monday said there will be dedicated parking in Uhuru Park and Railways as no car will be allowed within the CBD during these two days.

Maringa said during the set days, hawkers will be allowed to sell their wares.

The PS said this will generate Sh39.5 million daily revenue to the government from over 100,000 hawkers.

Maringa said the move which is a pilot program, will employ many, generating Sh 3.8 billion annually.

"The pilot stage is starting off with Moi Avenue, Harambee Avenue, Taifa Road, City hall and Mama Ngina Street," Maringa said.

He said the exercise will be fully done in Kenyatta Avenue, University way, Moi Avenue and Haile Selassie, before going to Westlands.

The old lunatic line serving the city suburbs. When you buy a new car you dont have to build a new road for your new car, you use the usual road.

When you see such silly and illogical announcements, you should not think about how it affects you. What you should think about is how it affects them, where them is the political class.

You can see this is a hairbrained scheme to raise revenue/chai. Lots of bribing will ensue, with hawkers not paying fees etc. It will be a field day for the vultures at City Hall.

Failed state.

Local assembly converting hino/isuzu lorries and mounting the frame and then calling them busesLaughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Kweli we love mediocrity. Those are not buses just converted trucks like those face me pickups that used to serve mashambani commuters. We end up with matatus trucks that belch black smoke all over. BRT buses have own specifications including wide doors and low emission engines.
