It's obvious that 30 cars take more space than 30 people in a bus. Personal cars *are* traffic. We need to somehow give car owners a mass transit option that can match what cars give them. My suggestion is that Nairobi tries to develop a carpooling app. Then incentivize guys to use it by subsidizing rides for a year or so. Same strategy Uber used to change the market.

There's a problem in Nairobi and it needs long term thought with short term fixes along the way. Only Sonko right now can fix that.
1. Work with the satellite governors to come up with a real BRT system. It should include Kenya Railways, large capacity saccos, everyone....Not red paint.
2. Increase parking fees for all vehicles including private and matatus.
3. Upgrade those terminus that are quarter finished to National stadium standards with toilets security etc and capacity
4. Work with Matiangi to tame the indiscipline with Matatu Saccos.
5. Effect the ban between 9am to 4pm
6. Work with Saccos to have them drop and pick passengers only. I have seen those buses at Kencom that implement that and don't see the kind of hell that goes on on Tom Mboya street. Let them comply or work with Matiangi to revoke their licenses.
Those are short term measures that will have the support of all Kenyans.
We don't like Matatu culture. But Sonko handed these madmen a blank check to ringa just because he failed to plan and was banking on NYS buses....And the support of Murchr.  Enyewe Sonko is a political genius. Sonko was never going to implement that gazette notice period. The man was given orders and decided to sabotage the whole system. You actually believe the matatu crews calmly agreed to follow the orders not to enter CBD not even a bonfire was lit. Sonko got his buddies to choke off traffic at fig tree and muthurwa and boom the whole debate was won. Matatus matter in this city. The cartels won. Let us forget all this nonsense about BRT. It's headed nowhere. Talk! Talk! Talk!

The guy who will realize that Matatus are not really the problem but MATATU DRIVERS, and do sth about it, we hsall have hit the ultimate jackpot. We need very harsh penalties on matatu drivers. Leave out the owners and pax. Lalia madere kabisa, take out those licenses without mercy. GoK to take custody of the matatus finish this impunity. I think Sonko is doing a great job at killing SMEs in the city. Its time to relocate to the Suburbs and set up shop. At this rate, I don't see any serious person discussing business at Charlie's, WHy meet at a Java in CBD when you can find them at the Suburbs? Why get into CBD to buy a TV,phone or a Car radio when I can get them on Jumia cheaper delivered to me? Why have an office in town CBD unless I am a lawyer who needs to go to court every day? I Think Therefore I Am

The actual resident of nairobi is actually treated with a lot of contempt. The upcountry buses, thika road, ngong road buses were all allocated pretty decent termini on Desai road, Park road. The nairobi circular routes matatus were allocated the shitty places like Muthurwa others were not even considered for any space. People from the suburbs were the ones complaining loudest about the walking. The residents of nairobi in kawangware, kibera,huruma, eastlands make a lot of trips on foot. I agree let some of these shops should shift to the suburbs. We can then have shops that cater for nairobi actual residents.
