Yes... because people have different experiences and outcomes and their settings (socialization) instills different sets of expectations. so the outcome will always differ but it's very much a product of that formula.
How did you arrive at this formula?
Is it a formula in the 1st place?
It is... you haven't proven much to the contrary.... you are happy when the outcome of an event in your life equals or exceeds expectations.

Don't forget it: he has most who needs least. Don't create needs for yourself.

exactly... reduce the expectations and whatever the outcome - you will always be happy.
Not exactly, how now. It all depends on tolerance, exposure. A free soul knows nothing to do with happiness, sadness, expectations and outcomes. They are all conditioned reflex action through pain and reward. Have u ever seen a dog or cat cry for munching on their first puppy.
Example as it's offered and stated about Edison, failure is reduction of failure and thus build up of tolerance to failure in expectation of another failure to rule out failure on obvious failure and thus avoiding failure by ruleout of failed failure and thus the harder you work the more lucky u seem to be and hence higher-up tolerance and higher expectations of failure and thus equality of expectations and outcomes in absoluteness of happiness has nothing to do with failure of outcomes exceeding or notexceeding expectations.
Thus said,
(inverse)happiness is not equal to sadness but a condioned state
Happiness can exist with sadness and only that observing one makes the other passive, dormant.
