@atiriri this stock is trading ex all as of today but still has a P/E of 11 with good earnings expected with a recovery in investment income...

it traded 500 shares yesterday at 170 ex all... yeah i got into JHL using the proceeds from that God forsaken Kenya Re after its hopeless results and loss of compulsory cessions

My reasons for my persistence in the insurance sector is simply because this is a sector that was hit badly due to a drop in investment income but with the NSE up 35% year to date it looks poised for a major recovery even this year (i cant wait for JHL's half year results)

also this sector has a really low penetration rate and JHL being one of the largest in the industry is set to benefit from the sectors development

@2012 IMHO let me issue a small warning.. The reason i sold out of Kenya re and went to JHL was due to its poor management, heavy real estate investments, poor and declining underwriting profitability, and possible loss of cessions in the future...

I know the stock is trading with a P/E of 5 and dividend yield of 4% and less than book value but you need to ask yourself this.... why is the market pricing it at these levels??? be careful

Actually insurance is what got WB rich and is his real business. But I suppose with our low insurance penetration levels in Kenya one can hardly compare an insurance business here with that in the US.

Any of you have taken out non-compulsory such as life insurance (employers does not count). Stand up and be counted :)

True but WB also buys management... He regrets the mistake he made buying GeneralRe. Fired the top management...

wazuans,

insurance companies + all companies whose assets include listed stocks will benefit from revaluation of the assets in line with market prices.

if such a company also end their financial year after the period when NSE 20 climbed from 3s to 4s, they would post above average NAV growth (not necessarily PAT).
