iPhone’s new E-SIM Card

Apple has introduced a technology called eSIM into its latest iPhones whereby the phones have dual-SIM capabilities but one is via a traditional physical SIM card (the phone has only one SIM Slot) and the other is an eSIM or embedded SIM. The technology allows users to change carriers without having to order a new SIM card or go to a shop. Instead, they could just sign up digitally.
Apple’s move with the eSIM is likely to worry mobile carriers because it allows users to switch providers quickly and frequently, heating up competition in what is a tough market for many operators.

Unfortunately, few Operators(if any) are excited about this new technology, since it makes it very easy for subscribers to switch operators.So I think it will take a long time before they start adopting this new technology.

Funding production of millions of SIM Cards is an expensive exercise, therefore adopting this technology could be much faster than you expect. am sure some extensive research was done before bringing this on board

Personally, this eSIM feature adoption by manufacturers, will be akin to non-removable batteries which Apple (again) pioneered - introduced the concept to the masses...

Convenience to the masses will be significantly enhanced by eSIMs as opposed to the traditional dual (nano) SIM approach...

MNO's will experience very volatile churn rates once the adoption becomes the norm...
