self-service laundromat

Where's the best place to start a laundromat? I was leaning towards Nyayo Estate,but I've come to find out that they have serious water supply issues.

Start-up requirements:
Washing machines
Location (residential)
Adequate water/power
Soap?
Large dryer

The water issues are not unique to Nyayo during this time of drought. And anyway,if you have identified water as a constraint,why don't you supply it to the proposed laundromat for a premium?

Sorry to rain on your parade with no water. But why should i use a laundromatt when i pay someone to wash my clothes and my house with limited water for 250 which is one half day a week??
Do you think you will be able to match that price,minus the cleaning of course!

I've just seen this thread and I think its a good idea. A laundromat offers quality unlike a mama wa kufua who spoils your clothes with jik, does not iron, does not un-hung your clothes for you.

Mr Stark,
I for one would definitely use the services of a laundromat, Unless i knew someone incredibly reliable to wash and iron my clothes. And even then, that person is not always available. Plus there r certain clothes i am particular about that i'd wanna wash myself (or have the machine wash). So yes I think its a great idea!

Well... there is a point in that... but wouldn't a pick up and drop off be better?

When I think laundromat, I think of my college days when we used to take a load to the place. There was no ironing only washing & drying... So what am I missing?

BTW, we were broke so we used to take the wet clothes back & put them on/near the heaters!

@mukhamba and soul addict this thread is over 7 months old! the relevant question now are
1.Did deadpoet ever start the laundromat??
2.Is it doing well??
3.How much does it cost??
From your opinions I can tell you have never used Laundromat. If they are attended the service provided raises the cost. They also come with a clause that whatever is ruined is your problem. The unattended laundromat can ruin your clothes especially if your to cheap, like me, to separate your load into 3 or 4.
What I guess the 2 of you are thinking of is a dry cleaner and that is a different story. And laundromat don't iron clothes!!!
In a bid to be objective blind support doesn't help anyone. My questions were pertinent can a laundromat compete with a mama nguo in price and service. So please don't lambast me for asking relevant questions.

I have asked around and the main issues when it comes to starting up a laundromat is the electricity and water expenses. I, for one, would not mind having my clothes cleaned for me. It saves me time and takes the water and electricity expense off my hands.

When I say Laundromat, am thinking of it, Kenyan style, just get machines, employ people to carry out the cleaning, and the ironing for your customers.
