Its very expensive to procure a medical cover for those over 55 years. My advice......do the following;
1. enroll them with NHIF
2. set aside at least KSH300,000 for a rainy day(in case of admission)
3.ensure they go for annual medical check ups...so as to arrest/diagnose medical problems early

To your figure of 300,000 add another 0...The medical fees am seeing people pay 300,000 will be a drop in the ocean.

The Kenya Association of Retired Officers has negotiated a medical scheme with NHIF for its members. It's quite generous and is basically the current civil service scheme with higher ANNUAL premiums. It also covers dependents. It's a game changer if you have elderly persons that qualify for membership and will blow these private insurance schemes with their preconditions, sub-limits, approved panels and such shenanigans out of the water.

Membership is open to former/retired:
(i) Civil servants.
(ii) Teachers.
(iii) Constitutional Commissions.
(iv) Independent office holders and staff.
(v) State corporations/ parastatals.
(vi) KDF/ discipline forces /NYS/ KWS etc.
(vii) Local authority employees.
(viii) County governments.
(ix) Public universities, CUE etc.
(x) Judiciary, National Assembly.

Registration requirements.
i)Letter of retirement/ proof of service.
ii) Dully filled membership application form.
iii) Ksh. 1000 registration fee.

You can check out the details from their quite basic website here.

As @Somanvideo has said the NHIF package for retired civil servants is quite good. If they are eligible as retitred civil servants this should b option 1.
If not, option 2 should be Supa cover by NHIF cover for the folks. It's 6K per year... 500 per month. NHIF super cover is eligible in many places both private and public and will reduce your bill significantly. It wont eliminate your cost in private hospitals but it makes it very manageable. You also get 1 ct scan per year. Things like dialysis are covered as outpatients. It's a good deal!
Option 3
If you have a company or business put the folks on a minimum salo and provide their health insurance through your company. It's a lot easier getting them covered through a group life cover.

All the private insurances and their rules and restrictions will have a 2 year restriction on preexisting disease and then will refuse to cover. Who over 70 doesn't have a preexisting disease? Nonsense!

The annual premiums would be on top of the 500/- p.m i,e like the 65,153/- that would additional 5,429 p.m?
Does a company require a minimum number of employees?
Once someone signs up,would they start enjoying the cover immediately?

If you get covered by a company in a group cover you are immediately covered... including pregnancies.
The annual premiums negotiated by the company is what applies but are significantly higher than the NHIF 500 per month.
