Some 3 years back I bought a TV from LG which was sold as digital. Now my pal is here busy telling me there has never been any digital TV sold in the country. He says kbc is currently testing the signals and if my Tv was digital it should be able to capture the signals. Where is the truth?

your friend was very right, we have never had and still don't have any digital TV sets in the country!Digital TV is a new revolution and is only recently that KBC is testing the signals. For the TVs being sold as digital it's only in their operations which are now digital otherwise fundamentally they still are analogue receivers!

Sony Bravia brand their digital tvs as KDL. This tvs are hybrid in that they have both digital and analogue tuners what i fail to understand is why all the kenyan shops stock the KLV analogue Bravias while the difference in prices between the two models is aproxx 4k! is any serious wazuan in the bz of Tvs to come to our rescue. If you bought a new bravia for the world cup you have been conned! come 2012 you are on your own. Kama kuoga ni usafi taulo lachafukani?

To recieve digital signals and enjoy digital clarity you will have to buy a Digital TV receiver (Set Top Box). Spatial Systems, Kimathi house-3rd floor are local dealers. Call 0725 785321.

@Allank-many of those hybrid TVs you mention have digital tuners which only handle MPEG-2 broadcasts and not the newer MPEG-4 standard which has been specified by CCK.Moreover we dont have enough digital and HD content let along the prohibitive cost of MPEG-4 receivers for the dealers to stock them.As for people buying the new bravia sets, there is no problem, come 2012 all they will need is a low cost SET TOP BOX

Kshs. 6,500/- as at June 2010!
Not marketed well enough, there's still widespread ignorance about this gadget.
Will there be FTA and PPV channels?

@Allank.The model you mention is specified for the nordic countries and is not produced for the middle east/africa region. Also note that the model you mention supports MPEG4 with specific operators and will not just work anywhere. Please note that DVB-T has different parameters for specific regions hence what you see on the net will not necessarily work here. The safest bet for now would be to just acquire the various HD TVs in the market and use the set top box which has the approved DVB-T/MPEG-4 standard adopted here to decode the digital signals. It would be disastrous to be stuck with an expensive digital TV set once the digital migration starts.
