Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore says safaricom won't be reviewing it's rates downwards in response to the competitors review and it's loss of mkt share as per March 31 2018.
He says doing that we'll leave the company not being able to make a profit and invest in upgrades and modernization of the network

Airtel Proposals

In its presentation, Airtel has proposed the implementation of zero-rated mobile termination rates (MTR) to address the gaps that contribute to anti-competitive behaviour.

According to the telco, the MTR regulations executed from 2010 to 2014 did not solve the existing market challenges.

Airtel is also recommending for mobile money agents to use one float to enable customers to deposit and withdraw from the same agent, the prohibition of individually tailored loyalty schemes, prohibition of on-net and off-net discounts, and replication of tariffs.

“We feel that a declaration of dominance will facilitate full implementation of the much-needed remedies by the Communication Authority as empowered by the law,” Airtel says.

Airtel will not propose such regulations where it is a market leader in Malawi, Niger, Congo Brazzaville, Congo DRC,Seychelles,Zambia

5G will not replace 4G. 5G will need 4G to operate. The transitions from 2G to 3G and 3G to 4G involved separate networks, but 4G will remain because the infrastructure is critical to the evolution of 5G. I guess that's why Airtel is now beginning to invest in 4G.

Airtel should not get any favours or concessions however loud they scream. Safaricom fought their way to the top by investing,partnering and innovating- things their competitors are very poor at.
If they don't shape up and get to work their loss making streak will be the hallmark of their presence on Kenya
