I was jes thinking about what NSE listed companies will do well due to the world cup...came up with the following
1.KQ...ticket prices Oliver Tambo at an all time high, KQ has 4 flights daily to Joburg and that too on the B777(carries 322 passengers). They fill the outbound sector but coming back is pretty empty. SAA only do 2 daily to NBO on the 150 seater B737-800

2. EABL and other carbonated drink manufacturers...obvious reasons

3. centum, owns listed and non-listed drink makers, carbacid and owns a chunk of KQ

4. Carbacid, by extension of number 2

5. KPLC...more TVs running

6. Mumias again extension of sugary drinks and foodstuffs

7. Banks perhaps?? More tvs financed thru HP

Anymore additions or subtractions?

Second thing I wanted to ask was, do you patronize your investment? Ie I have Kenol, and I ensure that I fuel at kenol...anyone else do something similar?

@horton NMG and SGL, newspaper readership at all times high and ad spend too. BAT, smokers calming their nerves. TPS? I think soft drinks will do better than EABL, excise on beer up 20% while disposal incomes still low. Diehard fans are known to 'suckle' a soda thru the match.
Life is short. Live passionately.

Definitely KQ... though the empty flights back are no good... Pity KQ wasnt selling "Run away from the World Cup" packages for S.Africans...

EABL will benefit lakini the Budget 2010 tax increase sucks...

KPLC - Not much coz they already sell all the electricity they can buy... I am glad the dams are full...

Banks benefit all the time... no matter what!

Nation + SGL coz of newspaper sales + ads on TV

It's sad that we didn't market and position Kenya well for this world cup. We'd be over the moon if we had. We're only 4hrs away - someone could take a flight, watch a match and back within the same day as the hotels there are too expensive and the side attraction eg tour safaris are unaffordable. I guess that's part of what vvs is saying too.

BBI will solve it

How can we forget the all time best
OLYMPIA.
In 2008 through to 2009 there were OLYMPIA promoters in SK! @Nyari et al who were saying that Olympia is making it big with it botswana and SA subsidiaries. It seems it has come to pass and olympia is trading at 60% of its 2008 prices!
This just goes to show do your research forget "hot tips" and most importantly look at the companies books!!!!

KTB tried to get the GoK to help promote Kenya but it failed... Why? Coz politics took center-stage...

@VVS,

KQ is selling 'Escape South Africa' packages. Very very cheap.

Additionally, there are very many people departing in the morning watching the games and returning by night.

I had no idea... give me an idea on prices...

How can someone afford to fly out from Nairobi to watch the game then return at night... cost-wise...
