Duty Free shops

Have you ever been in a foreign country, holding their own currency and about to exit, then, you go to the duty free shops in departure lodge only to be informed that "we do not accept xxx currency" we accept only Usd.

at this point you just realise you are holding 'monkeys' in your pocket.

Am thirsty @Addis airport, I have loads of Birrs in my pocket and I cannot buy myself a drink.

Is it that this countries do not apptove their own currency or there is something I am missing?.

Pole,you didnt get the advise beforehand, I was advised that in Ethiopia you convert USD to Birr only what you absolutely need to spemd there. They do not convert /buy their currency back to dollars.

In my opinion, it is absurd for any bussiness refusing to accept countries own currency. whether duty free or not.d'oh!

You can 'gift' them to me. I will be heading there end of the month. And yes you only covert that which you need to use and keep the receipt if you need to convert back to USD (very rare).

Pay most things in Addis with dollars

Birr is a shitty currency. Instead of throwing them away you can give me ...... il also be giving them away in Addis.
I work so I can afford the amount of alcohol required to continue going to work
