Needs to be pushed to Sunday.... i hope they don't sight the moon on Friday smile

You're right @Lolest! They gazetted it way back last week. I think they just wanted people to work on Friday regardless.

@othelo, there is a formula to it. Today Thu 16th Jul, is the 29th day of Ramadhan. Lunar cycles take 28.5 or 29 days. So we might sight the moon today evening, if the sky is clear. Otherwise, we complete the fast 30 days tomorrow. So you cannot go beyond 30 days smile

Some Muslim mark Idd ul fitr today in defiance of Chief KAdhi, whereas others will celebrate theirs tomorrow!

That chief Kadhi has been compromised... Moon sighting anywhere in the world should be taken by all Muslims!

Suppose its all foggy worldwide?
Can we use some scientific method rather than using the manual sighting?

Change is inevitable and that's why adnan call is nowadays done through a very LOUD loudspeaker while in the past it was done by some Kadhi climbing up the corner tower and announce loudly without any device aid.

@nandwa, It is not a big deal. Whether 29 or 30 days is all allowed by Islamic sharia.

It also happened in the time of the prophet. He told the people, on 29th day look for the moon, if you don't see it, then complete 30 days. And there were NO mobile phones those days, meaning people in a far village could sight the moon and they had no means to tell others in a different location who couldn't see due to geographical or visible problem and the later group would have to fast 30 days.

And regarding the Kadhi, he is nearest symbol of unity for Muslims in Kenya, so I followed his announcement to celebrate Eid on Saturday. That means, I completed 30 days fast as required by sharia, which included last Fri.

IMPORTANT: The moon cannot be seen at once in the whole world because of geographical differences.

See postition of hte moon on Thu 16th Jul. You can see in Kenya, we could not see it on Thur evening.
