@sasha series 4 contrast ratio 10,000:1 with 3HDMI inputs series 3 contrast ratio 8000:1 2HDMI inputs the contrast ratio difference is almost nothing, 2 HDMI inputs are adequate, example could use one for DSTV HD decoder, the other for terrestrial HD in the future. So series 3 LCD is just fine On another note Samsung seem not to have good local support in terms of spares going by experience of another wazuan, check this: http://www.wazua.co.ke/f...aspx?g=posts&t=6598
@anazazi-All japanese brand products we have here since early 90's are mainly assembled in malaysia, they are OK,unless from china!

Thank you eddyz. If that is so, why the huge disparity between the prices of the two models i.e. Series 3 is 40k and Series 4 is 52k. 12k just for an extra HDMI port? Doesn't make sense! I shudder to think of the difference between the Series 3 and the Series 8!
BTW you did not get back to me on the South Africa Decoder issue?

a comparison between the 32' samsung and 32' Bravia each going for 40k the samsung doesnt have usb port, bravia has 1 usb port the samsung has 3yrs warranty, bravia has 1 yr both have hdmi ports.
have noticed that many digital setup boxes in kenya use the AV ports so HDMI can be used for DSTV decoder and DVD player

@sasha-swivel stand not available for series 3, 32inch set -HDMI on series 4 allows use of one remote control for the other HDMI connected devices,i think this makes the huge price difference
As for decoder, pole i had been away:what i gathered is the previous owner has to do a letter of transfer at multichoice office (SA in your case)The dstv guys here will then open a new account with your name and issue you with smart card (about 2k) valid for this region.Get the dish and you're set.

Anyone who can sell a used DSTV decoder and dish at a reasonable price? The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.

Hi All, I need a bit of help as concerns this HDTVs but I don't want to duplicate posts. Kindly click on the link below and see if you can help. Thanks. HDTV vs Local (SD) ChannelsNever count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

Thank you eddyz. Gave the same advise to the guy but on doing so, SA refused to consent to the transfer because the user had not been connected there. He just bought the decoder as he was coming back. Only solution now seems to buy a decoder set for this region!

Sasha wrote:Been mulling over getting the Samsung 32" LCD Series 4 going for 52k, and then they went out of stock, or so I was told. Now, I mulling over buying the same size but Series 3 which is also 720p. Now I'm wondering what I will be losing by going one series.
Anyone care to enlighten me? @ Sasha - For one, I don't think Series 3 is Full HD. At best, it would be HD ready. Secondly, I think you can get a higher series (I recommend series 5 - though I'm not sure it's available on 32") with the amount of money you are planning to spend depending on where you buy your TV. Try House Wives paradise [their shop near the macmillan library? (the one near Nation Center)]. I was there on a different issue a few days ago and I realized they have drastically reduced their prices - World cup offer! One more thing, there are numerous functionalities we might be missing now because we are still using the HDs like normal TVs but you don't want to realize 3 months down the line that there are numerous things your friends TV can do but yours can't just because you bought a lower series - my 2 cents! Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

@sasha-under this circumstances i would advice you to just get a new decoder,it's going for 6500/-(with smart card!)special world cup offer. It's sickening the way multichoice treats potential customers, high time we got a competitor to counter this snobbish attitude!

@MaichBlack-you’re sure that series 5 can be acquired at 52k? If this is so, then I agree with you for Sasha to get this instead. Series 5 has some useful features like picture in picture and USB port for jpeg and mp3, (USB for series 3/4 only for upgrades) but still such features can be found on cheaper 29 inch kawaida sets
Now about 720p and full HD, you should know that there’s no difference when the screen size is below 50 inches, in fact 720p is the better one when it comes to fast moving pictures e.g. sports, actually DSTV HD uses 720p and only occasionally 1080i.So for 32 inch set, full HD is not really worth the extra cost.

I'm not sure what price a 32" Series 5 goes for (If it exists that is - some higher series only come in 37" or 40" upwards), but I know a 37" 5 series they were selling at 74,500/= a couple of weeks ago is now going for around 69,000/= - A 5k difference. Using this as my basis, I'm sure Sasha can get a pretty good set at 52k - or she might be tempted to add something small for a bigger set. They have 32" on offer but I'm not sure of the prices coz I was not shopping for a TV - I was looking for a SD - HD converter (if one exists - LOL) Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

@MaichBlack-indeed there is 32"series 5, model LN32A540 as for SD-HD converter, there is software and devices used for professional editing and broadcast purposes and hence unlikely to be found for home TV users

@anazazi-All japanese brand products we have here since early 90's are mainly assembled in malaysia, they are OK,unless from china! @eddyz, most of the electronics sold in the U.S are from the China. Most of the big manufacturers have outsourced to Chinese companies coz of cost.Almost all electronics imported are from China! My question is what is the basis for your bias for Chinese made television sets ? I would appreciate if you could expound on this. I don't think its fair to paint with a broad brush unless you can back it up.. You create a perception that might be extremely flawed. It's not hard to make decisions when you know what your values are.

Even without statistics i bet 80% of western electronic are proudly made in China. I think where we went wrong in Africa(read the business guys) is to look for cheap chinese goods and ended up getting counterfeits and underhand made goods..... All the sports goods selling at very high premium in western countries are made in china check all your lables and even the mitumba designers you see.
