1) Selling chewing gum is illegal.

2) playing an instrument a manner as to cause or be likely to cause annoyance.

3) their laws consider using another person's Wi-Fi network as hacking.

4) If you're caught doing the deed, you can be fined a whopping $10,000, face up to three years in jail, or both.

5) if you don't flush a public toilet- you're looking at a fine of around $150.

6) Wandering around your house nude with any open curtains can land you a fine of $2,000

1 - why selling why not chewing?
2 - 'likely to cause annoyance' - rather subjective... annoyance to who?
3) - open wi-fi hotspots are an entrapment - they just knock on your phone.
4) - come on... it's annoyance but not a crime.
5) - my house my rules!

I remember watching an interview of Lee Kuan Yew explaining why they had to have tough laws. I can' find it now but will try to post it when I get it. His argument was that Singapore is a small place and when they started the whole population were all washambas who had never lived in a modern city and had a lot of ushamba tabias that made it difficult for everyone to live together when they transformed the place into a modern city state.

He was giving an example of the kind of things they had to deal with in those early days and they had to come up with laws and solutions to address them as they went. I remember him talking about one of the problems they had to deal with when they first built their high rise apartments was of guys peeing in the lift. You get people who used to live in the countryside where you can just kojoa anywhere and bring them into an apartment building they carry the same habits. So they installed cameras in the lifts and had to have a tough penalty to discourage the practice. Then he said once the cameras were installed people stopped peeing in the lift and now started stopping the lift and then peeing into it while standing outside where they could not be captured by the cameras.

Check out his interviews on youtube. He was one of the most brilliant leaders I have ever heard speak. He was also very logical and a excellent communicator.
