What is the actual difference between a road trip(Bus) and SGR. Please see a loose comparison I have come up with.

1. Time taken from Nairobi CBD to Msa CBD is same(8 hrs)
2. SGR fare is actually higher

Panda busi then come tell us

i cant seem to upload the comparison chart but @murchr go with facts

There's a thread in the green section highlighting the issues with the bus ride
The SGR ride is 5hrs by the way

It is better to fly

i still prefer to drive my swift between Mombasa and Nairobi, costs me about 2,500 each way, always fun along the way, stops and detours into camping sites and towns, takes whole day though.
If i want to travel fast I take a flight usually around 4500 one-way, the problem with SGR at the moment is timing, it's not very friendly to business people who make up the majority of daily passengers, an evening and early morning train would be nice say 8pm and 6 am.

Yeah.
Currently as it is, with only morning trips, it's not that attractive..

Politics aside, the costumes/drama aside- especially at check in where the Chinese have extensive checks than Jkia itself (read sniffer dogs...)

A Multi Criteria Analysis indicates SGR to be an unreasonable economic investment. We overspent on the damn project, for what....?! Aside from Awing first time visitors/train users

Theres nothing ‘awing’ about the SGR service nor the product.. The Ethiopia Djibouti train service is more thrilling
