You are right. The rains come about 1 week after the equinox.

They need to stop copy&pasting last years weather reports and give proper forecasts. And the clustering "Sunny intervals expected over a few places" Yet weather stations exist. Anyway!

I am looking at the current real time satellite image showing current rainfall status in the region and there is no way rains will start today or tmr or 1st march as the met guy is saying. The only places currently raining as per the satellite image as I am typing this are malaba and kisii, and their rain is mostly convectional rain from lake victoria. The long rains are due to the south easterly monsoon winds and hakuna dalili ya mvua any time soon.

This is the current real time world rainfall satellite image and as you can see, the ITCZ is still moving north and hasn't reached kenya. It will reach kenya maybe the next 2 or 3 weeks thus my prediction that rains will start proper in 2-3rd week of march. The weatherman should contact me for advice on matters rainsmile.

For those who do not know what the beast ITCZ is, they can be schooled here:

Can any wazuan in malaba or kisii (suneka, nyangusu, even neighboring kilgoris) confirm that it's currently raining as per my satellite image?

For a better understanding, have a look at this article. Explains quite a bit of how weather prediction works.

Nope. I am not wrong. So have farmers planted now that it has rained?

These are just the early rains that occur for a few days then stop before the real rains begins. They are what Mugabe and zimbabweans call gukurahundi i.e "the early rain which washes away the chaff before the spring rains".

Another day to watch March 10. I think it will be foolish to imagine that the weather forecast is only important for farmers. Those met guys should be giving that 7 or 10 day forecast everyday now that they have a twitter and facebook account. Just as farmers need to know when to plant, travellers need to know how and if they should travel etc. So March 10 is forecasted to be another rainy night in Nairobi. If you are a farmer mbegu I kuwe chini on that day you will not regret.
