That Edward chap is so useless, who said guys with PhD's only need to teach He should be out there offering services with daily rates of above 100K for a 7hr work day(but actual work is less than 3 hrs)....useless chap No wonder he thinks along this lines. Quote:Now he says that any investment you make in education beyond a baccalaureate or bachelor’s degree is virtually a waste of resources, whose return is uncertain what an idiot? Ofcourse experience pays but Education pays much higher Quote:Edward argues that if the country needs higher education graduates to do research, improve productivity and help the economy grow, then it must pay for them as it pays for any other investment. Who told him the only profession as a phd holder he can be engaged in is teaching Quote:Edward argues that if the country needs higher education graduates to do research, improve productivity and help the economy grow, then it must pay for them as it pays for any other investment. I can't believe Ndemo wrote this piece without thinking through If Obiero did it, Who Am I?

Civil serviceQuote:The service had an aging workforce, with 37 per cent of officers being 50 years and above as at June 30, 2017, compared to 35 per cent in the same period in 2015/16 financial year,” the PSC, chaired by Prof Margaret Kobia said. Quote:Majority of employees in management positions (Job Group P and above) are over 46 years,” PSC said earlier.
Only 19 per cent of the civil servants were aged 19-35years in the year to June 2016. Another 13.9 per cent are aged 36-40 years while 14 per cent of them are between 41 and 45 years. KwaleQuote:Kwale County is staring at a crisis as job seekers outnumber available positions by far.
This is after the county public service board recently advertised 40 vacancies for county askaris and received over 1,000 applications. If Obiero did it, Who Am I?

[/quote] There would be a crisis if governments don't employ people. One of the role of government is to employ people from all corners and initiate projects there to create a good circulation of money. So, when you see those white elephants of bridges etc and useless bail outs of "unrespectable" factories, it's very intentional for getting monies to those areas to avert a crisis. BBI will solve it :)

My friend this happens with every government in the world. Some people and communities would never get jobs and money circulating in their areas. I can bet you that the biggest employer in North Eastern is the government. Government is supposed to come up with projects and that's why I don't understand how Jubilee is unable to create 500k indirect jobs yet the ministries return almost a trillion of unused money back to the exchequer every year. Think about it, for example, NTSA has returned all those wannabe police men back to the office, what do you think they do there? If it was a private business they would have gone home but gorernment cannot fire so they are white elephants consuming tax payers money for zero service. BBI will solve it :)

I am not saying govt should not spend money, rather it shouldn't throw money to nonsense projects - which is what white elephants are. Govt should spend on infrastructure but not casual labor just to provide jobs to people. EG Govt Provides funds to build a road - Road construction company employs people, buy materials and equip - People spend their salaries on other economic activities. Road is completed, good road attracts FDI(local or international) company sets up, employs more locals and the cycle goes on and on. If on the other hand govt throws money on projects that dont give back, how sustainable is it? "There are only two emotions in the market, hope & fear. The reason why Nairobi exists today is because of the railway, otherwise if the rail took a turn elsewhere Nai would be some stinky swamp where decomposition of animal matter was abnormally slow.
