I came across this term while reading about the couple whose baby has multiple needles in her body. Could this be what the mother is suffering from? https://www.webmd.com/mental-hea.../munchausen-syndrome#1-2

Wow ! We learn something new everyday. That case has really disturbed me. And this seems to be the most plausible explanation.

May I suggest you edit the title of the thread to include a reference to the Thika case.

What puzzled me was the way the mother had already diagnosed the child's illness as pneumonia. I wonder how many times she had taken her to hospital to be treated for anything else other than what was really ailing her

You know after reading about this syndrome, I think the mother requires treatment and not punishment.

Mental health issues in this country have never been addressed.

Young mothers in Kenya really suffer there is also the post delivery depression where if not checked a mother may even smother the baby to death, it's a condition where a mother sees the baby as a hindrance to her life and with many absentee fathers, and relatives far away it's happening more often.
Zamani it was low because you would find the guys or the wife's mother came to stay with the new mother for the first few weeks at least, today even with husband maternity leave, the guys just use this time to side hustle or just stay at the mtaa.

But how can this be it yet the baby indeed has needles in her body with no penetration scars?

Ms Jacinta Ndung’e, was arrested at the hospital, while the baby and her three siblings were taken to Macheo Children’s Home where they will stay until police conclude investigations into how the needles found their way into the baby’s buttocks.

Thika children’s officer, Ms Rebecca Kariuki, said they suspect the mother could be holding vital information that would reveal what happened.

This is not the first case I have heard of, http://www.mirror.co.uk/...y-needles-found-5398037

Munchausen by proxy - in which case its not the individual drawing medical attention to themselves but to their kids. If that's the case then she needs psychiatric care and not jail.
