What's your yardstick? Table setting? Gifts? Lack of controversies? Presenter's eloquence? Entertainment? Dividends? New announcements?

BBI will solve it

The best = Pan Africa Insurance Holdings
The Worst = Total Kenya

The last time i attended an AGM was in June 2008. During the Total Kenya AGM then the directors won't accept direct questions from shareholders and will give out sheets for the shareholders to write them down. On the 'high table' they choose what to answer and what to ignore...but may be so many things have changed. My rating is based on how the event was organized.

Enjoyed Stanbic Ug. At the Golf Hotel, no goodies, only annual accounts, cofis, teas and snacks. Thought they are serious and were keen on finishing the whole session on time, so that management would go back to work.

Total still do that. I find the Chairman of Nic Bank too harsh especially when he is being asked tough questions.

I enjoyed City Trust 2 years ago... Small AGM... Was all business... No food, no gift just biashara!

What biashara can you conduct at AGM unless you have a controlling stake? Most of the decisions are made by the majority shareholders the AGM simply endorses the decisions. For the minority shareholders it's all about the food and the gifts, if you don't like the direction the company is taking you sell your shares

My former lecturer told me that Kenyan companies have afew shareholders, the rest attend meetings for entertainment purposes.

I have never attended an AGMsmile

I actually enjoyed that one. I was one of the shareholders watching highlights on tv. They should do the same this year.

I think it was wrong for Safaricom to deny shareholders goodies last year in the AGM.

I tell you, it's just because many do not scrutinise the accounts, you would find superflous costs/rewards paid to other stakeholders that pale in comparison. Not right, especially since 'select few' were treated to lunch etc.

Who are these select few?
