When central kenya governors are debating if they should rebuild the railway btwn nanyuki and nairobi (using internal resources by the way) to reduce cost of business, these other governors are debating costs for ferrying goons to cause destruction in nairobi in the name of 1 million man march, bringing down companies which are the very source of revenue they so badly want increased, etc etc.

I think even moi, for all his failings, wasn't as 'thick'.

We're all looking at the smaller picture. This NRA boycott call is not targeted at you and me middle-class and up-market citizens. We all know that it's ridiculous and even laughable. The target is the poor majority who take baba's word as gospel and not an old man's tale. Targeting Safaricom, Brookside, Bidco is inconsequential as these companies will not feel a pinch. The main danger and the intentions of the boycott is for the poor followers of NRA to to extend the boycott on tribal lines on the ground. The idea is that Onyango should boycott Kamau's kiosk and vise-versa eventually where Maina stops taking his old taxi to Omosh for repair. The idea is to destabilize the economy down there to create strive. The question is, who will throw in the towel first. I believe the more business minded communities will come up on top.

BBI will solve it

Country needs to find a way to mute this NRM and other related nonesense, otherwise we are destroying the democratic, economic and social gains. What options does the incoming regime have (excluding dialogue)?

We need to amend our constitution from the 'winner takes it all' to be more inclusive.

I have heard that talk but what does winner takeall mean? Just seen a tweet about bringing back 42 ministries. If that is it what do 42 ministries do for Kenya?

The constitution is ok as far as gov't is concerned what we are facing is greed of power.
47 governors/senators/women are more than enough. We are over represented.

there's no value in elections if winners and losers have to hold talks. i'd rather economic stagnation because of protests and boycotts than setting a precedent where an election loser can manipulate their way into a government position without actually winning an election. once you open that door, there's no going back and it's far worse than economic stagnation.

Brookeside does not have milk of its own and neither does Bidco have it's own maize, sunflower ,soya nor macadamia plantations. Boycotting products from this companies is, by extension, boycotting what Korir, Njuguna and Muthamia delivers to the processing plants. Now, the three farmers have more than milk. In their farms, they grow vegetables and other grains. If you do not want Korir's milk, Njuguna's milk, products from Muthamia's macadamia and soya beans, is it also not fair that he refuses to sell you his grains and vegetables?

Wasn't Bidco planning to set up oil palm plantations in western and nyanza...and transform the region economically? #LordOfPoverty

In other news, I have just seen 60 year old Orengo dressed as Fidel Castro and trying desperately to ape the Marxist revolutionary cred of old. Can someone tell these idiots they look ridiculous? Even University students outgrew this crap decades ago.

Where is FRM when you need him?

When you are trying to sell revolution a clownish image is not a very big help.

According to David Murathe one month ago on KTN ;
"The opposition have no stake in Kenya's economy."
"They don't own anything in this economy and that is why they want to destroy it".

Going with that logic, even if they all boycotted buying some products, the economy would still be fine. Why the bile on how poor people choose to spend their peanuts ? They have never mattered anyway.

It may help to remember that the sugar industry which is the mainstay of western Kenya has collapsed. The govt gave Mumias a loan of 1B while the sugar directorate is dishing away sugar import licenses to politically connected individuals. On the other hand, the coffee sector has had debt write-offs adding up to Kes 16B to date.

The fishing industry which is the mainstay of our lakeside brothers is going through some tough times. The Fisheries dept has cooked up some figures on Fish consumption and allowed imports from China. We discussed the same on another thread. According to the govt, Kenya's consume more fish than rice and therefore we need to import fish to cover the deficit.

Those contemplating a reverse boycott, you don't have to worry. It has been going on for many years. Sanctioned and bank-rolled by the govt. But feel free to boycott Raila's gas cylinders.

For once, protest is going on and we don't have to collect dead bodies on the street daily. That is progress.

Anybody who understands the dairy sector knows how the market dynamics play out during the rainy season. Someone is going to have a rough ride.

Just seen a quote which says "politics is when you advance your self interest and make it look like it's national interest"

Funny how anytime Nyanza resistance movement feels like they have something to yell about, they retreat to Kibera. I guess that's where most brookside yogurt consumers reside.

The black a$$ed nywele ngumu al shabaab are more radical islamists than the Arabs in Mecca. Therefore am not surprised that a naswad okuyo is more radical than joluos in bondo.
