Tanzania has been 'surpassing' Kenya for years now. First with Mzee Nyerere, with his socialist model, while across the border, we had our own rapacious Mzee, eeeh ahem, 'buying' huge tracts of land and any valuable assets in sight. Unbelievable prescience he had, don't you think? Such unparalleled business acumen. Our erstwhile brothers the Tanzanians still trailed Kenya.
Then came Moi and his cronies,...took billions for safekeeping. We zany and mercurial Kenyans, we whistled along and produced more. Tz had Ali Hassan Mwinyi, a man who at least appeared to have his head screwed on right ...Tz still didn't pass Kenya in its severe anemic state, abused and raped for many, long years.
Along comes Mwai Kibaki, seriously competent (but that is my opinion), but his minions plundered with reckless abandon (Anglo Leasing, among others)..Kenya starts stirring to life, meanwhile Tz had Mkapa and Kikwete. Tz still trailing.
And now have the duo, grand theft continues apace, while Tz has this unhinged fellow who rules by fiat.
I would still bet on Kenya. We are a hardscrapple people and survive these bastards and their continuous evil looting, come out ahead of nations with less malevolent leaders and more natural resources.
Wealth is generated by people,...and perhaps that is where the trick lies as regards Tz surpassing Kenya.
But we shall wait and see.

First I thought you were being sarcastic. I now realize you are serious.
Tanzania was dirt poor under Nyerere and his socialism. Infrastructure was inexistent. A trip from Dar to Mwanza would take a week due to lack of decent roads. Not much changed under Mwinyi who followed Nyerere's policy. Back then Kenyans would laugh hysterically about how poor Tanzania was. No one imagined that Tanzania would ever challenge Kenya at anything.

What Nyerere did well was the he stamped out tribalism such that in TZ today, ethnicity is a non-factor.

I sure hope you were joking when you said Mzee bought huge tracts of land. Of course he grabbed the land. I can't believe people still believe he bought the land. That land grabbing culture is what is biting us now.
All the land stolen in Nairobi and its environs was meant for roads, fire-stations, land fills, dams etc. So when you are stuck in traffic for 2 hours, you can thank the culture of land grabbing. When your taps go dry for a week, you can thank our culture of land grabbing and corruption.

If you look at the 3 main evils in Kenya today: tribalism, corruption and land grabbing, you will find that they started and were encouraged by Jomo . I also find it comical when you talk of Kenya stirring back to life.

Are you the one blowing this thing over? You've never even set foot in there what you know about TZ and bulldozer is just what you read here on wazua. Dah!

A law passed in 2002 allows for the expulsion of pregnant schoolgirls.
The law says the girls can be expelled and excluded from school for "offences against morality" and "wedlock".

If this is the worst thing Magufuli has ever done then he is a saint.

Magufuli Has accomplished the following:
- Waging a relentless war on corruption
- Established Free education up to secondary school
- Significantly reduced govt waste by curtailing foreign trips and holiday celebrations

Compare this with Kenyan leaders who divide us along tribal lines, have encouraged ethnic strife, turn a blind eye to corruption, steal land belonging to primary schools, .............

For this reason I will tale Magufuli any day over a Kenyan leader because as I said earlier, the damage that Kenyan leaders are committing is often permanent whereas Magufuli's roadside decrees will soon be reversed due to donor pressure. And even if he refuses, then his policies will be reversed when his term is over.

And whether that 2002 law is enforced depends on each individual headmaster or headmistress. Chances are that most pregant girls will not be forbidden from going to school because head-teachers have common sense.

Thats why people who complain about magufuli while making excuses for Kenyan leaders are comical.

He may be a dictator but Kenyan leaders are corrupt, are murderers, are land grabbers and tribalists.

I would rather have a dictator like Magufuli than the murderous corrupt lot that has been ruling Kenya for 54 years.

Only a person who doesnt live in Kenya would make some arguments being advanced here. The last dictactor was Moi even the laws we passed in 2010 leaves very little maneuvering for the president. Its all about this and that institution.

@murchr.

When Kenya is comparing herself, she picks South Korea & Malaysia (two quite developed countries) and we marvel at how 60 years ago,we were at par, or even, better economically /development-wise.

60 years later, Kenya is still dogged by the same old ills of poverty, disease & illiteracy, inspite our 'democracy'.

South Korea & Malaysia had dictators, Kenya had corrupt land grabbers. They developed, we didn't.

Ethiopia & Rwanda under dictators, will develop as we sing 'democracy'. Tanzania may do the same & 60 years later, the year 2077, , , ,alama ya duku duku!

Here in the ranch? Same old thuggery of 60 years ago. Even Mau forest, a water tower, has been forsaken. The people affected by the resulting environmental degradation, still have the audacity to sing of 'democracy'.
What we have in Kenya is nothing but wanton flaunting of stupity. Doing nothing but chasing tails. Stinking tails.

Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly
Very poor logic. As I have stated above, Magufulis is no saint. But Kenyan leaders are committing acts that are 10 times worse.

You speak of abuse of power yet abuse of power is 10 times worse in Kenya.

And in Kenya the damage is permanent: Once Ruto and his ilk have grabbed land for primary schools and land for water catchments, it will never be recovered.

And When Kenyan leaders steal elections the result is 1000 people die and thousands more are displaced forever.

So no matter how you twist it, Magufuli is a saint compared to Kenyan leaders
