Pardon me if I am posting on the wrong place. I have a 3 wallet NIC prepay card that is getting rejected on eBay payment. The explanation from NIC is that eBay will only charge the wallet in Kenya shillings yet I had loaded it in dollars. Now, is there a way I can make eBay charge my card using USD rather than requiring that I convert to KES thereby losing some cash during the exchange? Even linking to paypal results in the same problem, deductions cun only be done from the KES wallet yet the NIC chaps told me the card is a USD card by defaul and the Euro/KES are secondary.

Thanks

I could be wrong but all that is defined by the (naughty) bank; they make more money if card is settled in KES.

Maybe you should just open a USD account with same bank, then get internationally enabled card for the account.

also try the I & M travel card then with Dollar(default)/Euro/pound sounds same as your NIC card. Also used dollars load. I have used it and all transactions would go through fine. Even when outside Kenya. The only online transactions that always failed were transactions barring "Kenya" as a country i.e some sites only accepted cards from EU. It would automatically detect the currency and switch to that wallet when sorting Euro (used Euro wallet) when using Pound (it switched to Pound wallet) if there was no money in a specific wallet it indicated a negative balance and i would settle with the other wallets later on.

this is strange
i have a similar set-up with a CBA USD CC. The charge always comes through on the statement as $ charge (Exactly the same amount that i used on ebay/ amazon /paypal)

So after causing chaos at the local branch, they tell me that a prepay is essentially a debit card!!! Despite them having assured me that it functions as CC. So apparently when eBay detects a debit card it automatically converts to the currency of the country card even if it has a dollar wallet. Feeling very cheated now that I have to convert back to Kes in order to transact
