I feel for the parents. What can one do to avoid a son/daughter trying to take his/her life.

I tend to think 'we' have pushed our kids so hard to be something maybe we were not at their age or maybe we have left them to view and interpret life for themselves.

Could we be equating ability to provide to instilling life-saving values. Has money taken centre stage to equate success?

Now we need answers. It is not a rich man's problem. Even in rural Kenya young men are committing suicide.

As part and parcel of the 'we' I refuse to accept responsibility for 'our' kids choices. Why would you share or agree that it's you who should feel some responsibility for someone's decisions and choices?

That said, condolences to the family. It's very sad to have a dead child.

It's a crazy society that we live in...but at the end of the day everyone makes a personal well informed decision...Mimi hata maisha iwe ngumu aje I can never take my life...Period...do "we" push our kids...yes we do...the pressure to succeed is evident...

It's not the gun, the gun is just an instrument. If there's no gun there are drugs, blades, ropes and building to jump from.
Depression is very real and it's not about wealth or poverty, it's low self esteem. Parents need to help kids build up their confidence. Human beings were created for relationships and no money can buy that.

I thought Kiereini's son overdosed? I heard his death was similar to that of a prominent politician's son.

BBI will solve it :)

I've been thinking of this family and the boy who shot himself, what are we doing wrong as parents? Did this boy kill himself to punish the parents or was it for himself? Did the parents not see this coming? What are the signs to look out for in this day and age that people have mastered the art of hiding their depression? Unlike before, the people we need to worry about the most are the ones who look happiest. What a wonder and messes up society we have become. I can only pray that God guides us and watches over our kids.

Parents are not always to blame. Infact, I doubt most adult suicides have anything to do with parents and how one was brought up

I know of 2 suicides for guys I schooled with in secondary school. People we all thought were bright but something went wrong in their college life. They didn't even finish college

Who comes up with the suicide theory? Why not murder made to look like a suicide?

Some of these Brats are the fronts for their big shot Daddy's dirty deals.

On numerous occasions, our media report of deals by "a son or daughter of a powerful politician."

These deals also go bad and someone has to pay for it.

Why not this "son or daughter of a powerful politician."

As a sample, I give you the Akashas.

I agree with you. My question is, since we are raising our kids now, are there things we can do differently? Most of the adults conditioning; beliefs and perceptions can be attributed to their past experiences, so it therefore makes sense to fix our future adults' past now while it is still in our hands.

Makes sense? Oh well...
