Where are u lately?

As one who respects your analytical projections on shares,I wud be interested to know if u have already crunched the numbers regarding the plan to split KenGen into 2 entities in future....

If so,do u have a forward-looking analysis somewhere? roughly how will the shareholding be affected? What about the share value? And who gets the debts?

When buying shares, ask yourself, would you buy the whole company?

@ All,

Thnx 4 missing me guys..ive been kwat bizie man..Chasing Rough diamonds and Precious Art work..these are the stealthiest Monetary investments a human being can do while still on earth..!

What i can quip about Kengen is very simple..

Spliting a hair wont give you 2 hairs,it will only leave you with a Thinner and weaker strand of crap in your hands..Kengen is a Depreciating Stock ever since it left the 6 billion Pre-tax Profit range and it is faster becoming an obsolete Venture as long as it relies on Weather-determined power generation..Geothermal is no better because it is a Wide Guesswork that seems 'normal' in the eyes of Geologists..Those Vents could go burst anytime and make all those multibillion Geyser systems become trash and impotent..

I could consider Kengen only if,and only if they invest in NUCLEAR REACTORS for power generation.

Splitting Kengen therefore is Myopic,Diversionary, uneconomical and most of all very very Unfortunate!

@ Slykat,

I believe KP & LC were the ones addressing an issue of a split as is evidenced in the October 2008 press release. Click here

@ Eddiemundu,

What you are referring to as 'guess work' is demystified below:

@Eddie,

FACT:
Geothermal is way ahead of all other sources of energy in terms of reliability and safety........This has easily been found to be so by comparing what is reffered to as Capacity Factor....You may refer to the 3 Mile reactor accident (US) and Chernobyl (Ukraine).Compare this with the first Geothermal plant in US (Geyser),which was built in 1960 and is still going strong. The former two are very dead...... ...Kindly refrain from hating what you don't know.

Where did the talk of splitting Kengen come from? Someone loop me in.

In terms of profitability, issue should be how much less power Kengen is supplying to KPLC because the demand is there. I am not sure the masinga dam closure affected the output that alarmingly (in terms of output not the rationing!). I assume the unit cost as agreed between Kengen and KPLC remain until reviewed under the watchful eyes of the ERC which may not be soon. Kengen could still bring profitability to its shareholders by watching their expense account and give a handsome dividend by reducing any reserves of course at expense of future growth.

There was a plan to spilt:

Kengen to have a separate Geothermal unit, but with KenGen doing the borrowing for it. Note it requires Ksh70bn?
KPLC- to create a separate rural electrification unit. Also talk of a transmission and distribution units
