Prefects beating up other students in secondary schools almost always happens with the teaching staff's knowledge(and encouragement)!!

It led to students burning up prefects in Nyeri High because they were helpless

What's the reasoning behind an adult allowing students to beat up fellow teenagers?

what do people expect when they transfer parenting of their teenage kids to institutions, parents don't want responsibility they want someone else to do it for them, how can a kid be beaten up to the point of admission to hospital and yet the parents in that school do nothing.
we are just a crazy society

I do not think any parent would allow their kid to be beaten up by their age mates

Especially knowing those teenagers are often brutal. It's blows, kicks hitting with hockey sticks to the point of victims ending up with swollen faces and cuts all over

But Kenyans are hypocrites.

Unfortunately, that is not the case where bullying and close policing by prefects is common.

Many parents think that National schools produce good exam results because they teach well. That is simply NOT TRUE. What do you expect when you bring together the brightest children in the country in one school?

National schools do not teach any better than the rest: they just have bright students.

Many years ago, I attended A-Levels at a "Top National School". For the whole of form 5, we had not chemistry teacher. The form 6 class ahead of us had no math teacher at form 5.

We learned these subjects on our own and still managed to score As and Bs in KACE. And I can assure you that there was absolutely NO CHEATING!

My son at Nairobi School tells me there is bullying but not to the extent of Alliance. Some seniors (form 3s & 4s) robbed him of some money at the canteen. Another one robbed his spoon at the dining hall.

In this school, I get the feeling that there is a lot of animosity between all classes: f4 hates f3; f3 hates f2 and f2 hates f1. There was a big fight between f4 & f3 last month. The police were even called in to quell the violence. 20 boys were suspended.

A senior KDF officer removed his son from the school after the boy was beaten badly by form fours. he had to be admitted at hospital.

Apart from the psychological pain of leaving in fear, my son has been safe physically.

This is not a healthy environment for learning and it mus be STOPPED! In our days, bullying was only the preserve of form twos. F3 and above would never do it - it was deemed childish! Today, everybody is doing it and is viewed as a heroic act!

It is SHAMEFUL that prefects are allowed to mete out corporal punishment while teachers are barred from doing by the law. It appears that authority was transferred from the teachers and given to the prefects.

Remember that thread?
These were my concerns! I opted for private with 418 marks. No regrets whatsover.
Kwaza when I read the admission form requesting students to carry sijui spoons and plates, mattress,I realised iko shida.
The glory left these schools.

We have taken this democracy thing too far! Elections are not for everything that has leadership involved! ELECTIONS ARE FOR WELFARE! ASSUMES CONTRIBUTION! We elect our leaders because they administrate our contributions. that is why children don't vote... not because they are not people but rather THEY DON'T CONTRIBUTE! you don't vote for managers - do you? or CEO? just because you are an employee... the shareholders do! they have a STAKE! Prefects are to aid in administration of the school not taking care of the welfare of students.

Despite the evidence....
Sossion has outlived his usefulness. And he thinks his sole duty is to oppose Matiang'i and call for strikes.

He reminds of some opposition chief who has taken opposition literally.

To my friends who just have to add the word "constitution" to every issue.

What has democracy or constitution got to do with bullying. If in your school you did not elect your prefects, then don't blame us who did.

This is an issue of BULLYING.

The constitution or democracy have nothing to do with it. Bullying is a factor of parenting and school principles.

When you hear that the prefects had an "induction" session, you have to wonder what type of teachers are in that school. Chasing away the principle is not enough.

Every teacher in that school should be investigated for gross negligence. Every parent who knew should be jailed for abuse.

And parents. Next time your child tells you he's being beaten, don't keep quite. Go cause a major fuss in that school. You could be saving your child from accidental death.

Madness in this country.
