I heard they are testing it in Nairobi already but none has confirmed.. I understand 4G needs SIM swap but that hasn't happened yet

The american mobile providers have gone back to unlimited data, this might be the direction the mobile telecom industry will go, with 4g and a supposedly faster 5g in the works and also considering more and more people are ditching their computers for their phones when it comes to the basic IT related tasks , data prices will drop significantly.

AT&T is already on 5G.. Most of smartphone apps cannot run without internet good example is siri for iPhone therefore the idea of bundles is about to hit a dead end. Its funny how Safaricom frequently advise us to disable auto-updates, switch off this, switch off that in order to manage/save data instead of giving us unlimited plan. The moment you follow their advice you realize your smartphone is no longer smart

ATT is testing 5G which is mostly fiber network not wireless network.

Avg ATT unlimited bill is $100 per month that's about 10K for a bundle of unlimited data ofcourse with voice and txt. When safcom comes up with that, 10K per month plan then maybe, otherwise safcom is offering what the majority can afford. The other carriers data is capped at 10Gb after that it slows down. ATT had a cap too, but when they were taken to court by FTC for misinforming subscribers, they amended the plan.

All carriers will advise you to change your settings such that your phone can only make updates when connected on wifi. Another thing, most phones in KE are not even 4G compatible so even unlimited data would not be maximized

how can 5g be fiber if its supposed to be a mobile wireless standard.

but huko majuu there are providers with unlimited at around $30 with a limit throttling the speeds to around 3/4 mbps which is decent, or the likes of verizon where its unlimited for like 4 lines each at $30/$40 which is also a decent offer.

when orange had the unlimited at 3k and throttled to around 256 kbps I found that ok, even at the throttled speeds one could browse and watch youtube at lowest settings

WIFI - when you are in your house, you are using wifi not mobile networks.

those $30 $40 plans are slow speeds cant play live videos without buffering and they are capped. Decent speeds cost about $50 but they are capped too.

As per what Bob Collymore said, unlimited internet leads to a hockey stick effect in the usage of the pipes without an equal amount of revenue. So many people will start torrenting movies throughout the day. Wireless has a smaller capacity as compared to fiber.
In the US everyone has wifi in their homes so there will always be a substitute when it comes to the heavy lifting

in the US the have the cheapest bandwidth.if you can get gigabit for 70$ that is google fiber then you understand the situation there.unlimited data in kenya willnot work.no bandwidth to support it.look at zuku for instance with their 1mbps upload rates.its a joke.you should have seen the celebration on social media when verizon brought back the unlimited data.the data hunger s real.
