Kiefer William Frederick Dempsey George Rufus Sutherland, born 21 December 1966, is a Canadian actor, producer, director, and singer-songwriter.

Sutherland was born in St Mary's Hospital, Paddington, London, to Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas

His parents divorced in 1970, and in 1975, Sutherland moved with his mother to Toronto.

He attended elementary school at Crescent Town Elementary School, St. Clair Junior High East York, and John G. Althouse Middle School in Toronto.

He attended five different high schools, including St. Andrew's College, Martingrove Collegiate Institute, Harbord Collegiate Institute, Silverthorn Collegiate Institute, Malvern Collegiate Institute, and Annex Village Campus.

He also spent a semester at Regina Mundi Catholic College in London, Ontario and attended weekend acting lessons at Sir Frederick Banting Secondary School.

Captain (Rtd) Jack Bauer was born in Santa Monica, California, on February 18, 1966, to Phillip Bauer. The name of Jack's mother is unknown. Jack had one brother, Graem Bauer.

Jack has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of California, Los Angeles and a Master of Science degree in Criminology and Law from the University of California, Berkeley.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army and later graduated from Officer Candidate School. His branch was infantry.

He first served in the Green Berets, and was later a member of the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta (1st SFOD-D), popularly known as Delta Force.

Among his awards and decorations are the Silver Star, the Purple Heart, and the Legion of Merit.

Apart from Special Forces training, he received Airborne, Air Assault, and Ranger training.

He left the Army with the rank of Captain after fifteen years of service.

While in the U.S. Army, he married Teri Bauer and had one child, Kim Bauer.

Following his military career, Jack worked for both the Los Angeles Police Department's Special Weapons and Tactics unit, SWAT, for the Central Intelligence Agency as a case officer in the clandestine service, and the Counter Terrorist Unit.

He has demonstrated being at the peak of physical and mental condition. He has also shown a high proficiency with firearms.

He can handle explosives and electronic devices, and has a high resistance to torture.

He is fluent in German and has demonstrated some ability to either speak or understand Spanish, Russian, Arabic, and Serbian.

He is also shown to be capable of flying planes and helicopters.
