@mzee young, in my opinion, dealing in metals will burn you soon, and oil perhaps later, even dealing in their stocks as some analyst will drive you to think needs caution, you are better of with stocks that reflect true productive value (which oil often may) rather than stores of value (gold)that are escalating faster than currency which is the best measure of an economy. I wonder why one would consider an object that does not report growth/returns/profits/loss a long term value? If i were you i would leave that hyper speculative arena as fast as i can.

LOT SIZE IN HONGKONG / ASIAN MARKET

Lot size in Hong Kong market refers to the exact multiples of a stock you can buy.

Assume Stock X costs 8 Hnk$ and you have 10,000 HNK$ in your online account. Let us say the given lot size is 1000 units.

It means that you can only buy 1000 units of stock X costing you HNK$ 8,000 so you will still be left with 2000 HNK$ not utilized as the system will not accept orders that arw not multiples of 1,000 unit.

Mzee Chaka,

You made me laugh !!!!
I am a middle income earner earning only salary in a petroleum exploration company. I have been working here for the past 22 years so you should expect me me to be at reach at middle level management.

My source of funds is from salary / allowances
soft loans from coop
funds from my wife

Investmenta (stocks /real estate) actually for us is a family business which we intend to psss to the next generation.
If you have the right skills it is much easier to grow your funds in overseas market than in Africa.
In Canadian market between 2005 to date we have increased 1,200 CAD initial investment in Barrick gold Canada to 5,200 USD.
Somebody thst has far more than me can just invest all in Nigerian market, but we prefer to spread the risk to different areas / sectors.
We always start small and I believe in small beginings so my aim is not to scare anybody, I am very ordinary, mere workman. We started to wake up by year 2000.
Be aware my wife is a good investor and she specialises in US market. Some of the skills were got from her. We divide the work, She specialises in US, Canada, Ghana and Singapore while my take is in Asia, Oceania.
Lets I forgot in Australia market we started with USD 500 and the portfolio now is worth USD 2,500 rotating between BHP Bilton, Oceanic Gold and Newcrest.
So be aware with patientce, focus, consistency it is possible.

Thanks and regards

THE CONCEPT OF SPREAD IN HONG KONG MARKET

Spread refers to the maximum bid / ask for the ruling or closing price of a particular counter.

Let us say counter PETROCHINA is 10.00 HNK$ and the spread is 0.50/0.50 HNK$, it means

You have to place order for buy OR sale in multiples of 0.50 HNK$. In general in Asian market the maximum is ten spreads.

Back to our illustration }=

At 10.00 HNK$ for PETROCINA,

10 Spreads = 10 X 0.50 = 5.00

So you can only place order for either 15 HNK$ maximum or 5 HNK$ minimum

Mzee Much Know,

Thanks for your concern about Gold and Oil stocks,
but be aware that it is risky to invest on a sector you do not know about. Luckily for me I have more than enough facts and I have been working in the petroleum exploration company for the past 22 years.

Gold will continue to be bullish till 2015/2016
Oil will be bullish until 2023.

Bullishness entail occasional fluctuations.

I have been trading on oil and Gold blue chip counters consistently for the past 4 years with proofs to tremendous growth in my portfolio so I not writing theories.
Like me I do not understand FX trading so I condemn it, you have the right to condemn what you don't understand. Be aware that IMF, world bank and advanced world store and sale gold periodically.
I do not buy gold directly but I buy into blue chip Gold producing counters, and they produce quarterly and other financial statements which is subject to analysis.
Energy is made of oil and gas, oil sands,
Commodities is made of :-
Precious metals (Gold, silver, platinum)
Heavy metals (Aluminium, Iron Ore, Zinc)
Agric (Wheat, Cocoa, Soghum, sugar, rice,
fertilizer)

So I have a full basket of options depending on the reigning commodity to invest on during my life time what is important is to understand what one is doing.

In neigbouring Tanzania, the gold resources managed by Barrick gold is so much that Barrick Gold INC Canada, had to float Barrick Africa in London Stack Exchange few weeks ago. Yet it was not floated in Tanzania bourse. That means we foreigners will be buying into Tanzania natural resources at the end who will be better off ?

World spot Gold price is around USD 1,200, be aware
that I position in some gold stocks in mid Feb when Gold price was us$1,050 because gold stock addicts know as a simple ABC that the peak of gold in 2009 was USD1,221, and conservatively for 2010 it must at least reach the 2009 peak. The price is now around 1,200. People like us will soon take profits and wait again for the downswing.

On a final note, the most important thing is my contribution on how to invest overseas, it is your choice on which sector or counter you want to invest in.Thanks and Regards

AASTOCKS THE KING OF HONG KONG STOCKS RESEARCH.

www.aastocks.com/EN

For those who will in future venture into hong kong or China market, you will find this site very useful.
Under News and research, you will get opinions from brokers who colloborate with aastocks. Better still to get the opinion of various brokers on a particular counter based on the current or previous research report, this info is very handy in this wonderful site.

For some advanced trading tools like futures, options and warrants you need so subscribe. Unfortunately I am not an expert in this area, I only deal with equities.

After pencilling down the sector you want to invest in , it is always better to get other brokers opinion on the stock in addition to your own personal research from the available facts.

It is better to learn from information than from experience.
