The whole matter of finding the person who will agree to pump in money and the resulting dilution or the Ts&Cs that come with external money is something KQ shareholders will also need to grapple with sooner rather than later. And sadly I think the share will rally even then!

My initial thought was Munga flipping his "Rawat" shares to IFC. But if these are newly created shares being subscribed for (j.mp/2i4HTa0) then my guess is that they ran into capital adequacy issues after resetting their FY reserves based on gross premium valuation methodology (which they adopted in the current year) plus mark-to-market of their portfolio and impairment of some of KES 3.2 Bn in deposits held with financial institutions a proportion of which must be at either Chase or Imperial.

The dilution by IFC therefore became a necessary evil.

The subscription date of 30/12/2016, a day just before the FY books close (31/12/2016) is also an interesting tidbit.

This is massive dillution, and sooner or later there will be price correction.

The firm is doing quite badly.. And getting out now will be difficult since float is concentrated around a few.. Massive supply expected today

Down close to 8% today on the back of huge supply. Tomorrow there will be more blood in the street https://www.nse.co.ke/ma...tatistics&Itemid=190

Things are thick here. Rawat's ponzi scheme still biting hard 2/3 years down the line. Wasn't britam the crown jewel in his portfolio? The big boys/majority shareholders couldn't pull a rabbit out of the hat this time around. The damaged inflicted by a severe funding squeeze will take some considerable time to undo.

The main purpose of the stock market is to make fools of as many people as possible.

A quality firm/management in this sector is Jubilee. Unfortunately for me it comes with a heavy price tag! Thus I buy KenyaRe at lower/cheaper price points. PER, PB, etc

Why would the IFC buy such an insignificant (non-controlling) stake in Britam? What's the logic?

When KQ's MJ was joining the board, the market in its rendition perceived him as contemporary Jesus Christ of Nazareth. As a matter of fact the rally following the announcement afforded the likes of @Obiero to double their income. Equally traders are most likely to make a killing after IFC expressed interest in Britam stake. ..

Very unfair to current shareholders when a new monied shareholder comes in and buys shares at less than the NAV. They are diluted without an opt out.

IFC paid a huge premium to the market price. The dilution to NAV when they are paying a premium to market price isn't that negative to me. I highly suspect there is more corporate activity on this counter.

If you feel britam is undervalued then run out and buy more from those who are selling. I did that with KK.

Issue is not undervaluation and buying more. Issue is when you hold undervalued share waiting to rise then someone comes and dilutes you.

Which ever way you look at it this is better than a rights issue in a bear market or a bond in a high yield environment...I think this is the cheapest & quickest way they could have raised money...this is a bailout...you should be happy IFC rescued this struggling company...remember Chase Bank...someone recently came out & spoke about Housing Finance...I don't trust Housing Finances books
