I believe 'sleep' serves the function of replenishing and or renewal of energies that sustain 'normal life' in an organism-and in a particular context.

BMR shows the least amount of energy required to be alive...so while sleeping you dont need to spend any much energy.

Can you renew that energy during the day by just seating in a quiet place for say 4 hours? Must you close your eyes and be in a dark place for this renewal?

Why do human beings sleep (plus other animals)?
Was there a time when we did not sleep?
Did the sleep evolve with time to the extent that we now sleep for a third of our entire lifespan?

What will happen if we stopped sleeping today?

d'oh!

circadian rhythms are very present in most species... Girrafes sleep least of all, sloths kinda are on the extreme side of sleeping. so it's fair to assume that we sleep because it's an creatures' thing. why do babies sleep more than adults? why do old people sleep even less?

i personally think sleep is a waste of time. we get 4000 weeks on the planet - who wants to use 1000 of them asleep? the fewer i can sleep and be productive the next day - the better! There will be time enough to rest when I am dead! There will be more than enough sleeping enough in the grave!

What would you rather be doing in place of sleeping?

Almost 1 week later and you still have not decided what you will be doing when not sleeping. It seems there will be nothing you will be doing.

So you would rather spend time proving someone wrong in the internet than sleeping? Do you learn anything when you argue in the internet?
