@tycho etal....

Why do human beings sleep (plus other animals)?
Was there a time when we did not sleep?
Did the sleep evolve with time to the extent that we now sleep for a third of our entire lifespan?

What will happen if we stopped sleeping today?

d'oh!

circadian rhythms are very present in most species... Girrafes sleep least of all, sloths kinda are on the extreme side of sleeping. so it's fair to assume that we sleep because it's an creatures' thing. why do babies sleep more than adults? why do old people sleep even less?

i personally think sleep is a waste of time. we get 4000 weeks on the planet - who wants to use 1000 of them asleep? the fewer i can sleep and be productive the next day - the better! There will be time enough to rest when I am dead! There will be more than enough sleeping enough in the grave!

Its actually 1,300 weeks of sleeping.

We are being told to sleep for 8 hours a week to be productive at work, but those who are very successful in society, financially, are sleeping less and less...max 4 hours on a good night.

@DJ-CK sleeps at midnight and is a wake at 5.15am most of the time.
@Irungu Nyakera retires at 1am and he is awake at 5am swimming in a heated pool.
@Mo-1 is awake at 4am.
@RAO is awake at 4.30am.
@Atwoli is awake mopping the house at 4.15am

While you sleep at 10pm and struggles to wake up at 7.30am, you dont even have tea at home due to time...you work from 8am to 5pm and get paid 100K shillings and lives in a rented apartment in Langata, and above all you are poor and wont survive if the salo was delayed by a month yet you have all the time sleeping!

Why do we sleep?

Sad

The Holiday is OVER.

Lamentation about sleep will not help matters.

Wake up and go to work.

Will you dream in that state??
And what if you are cremated will you still sleep as ashes??

I believe 'sleep' serves the function of replenishing and or renewal of energies that sustain 'normal life' in an organism-and in a particular context.

BMR shows the least amount of energy required to be alive...so while sleeping you dont need to spend any much energy.

Can you renew that energy during the day by just seating in a quiet place for say 4 hours? Must you close your eyes and be in a dark place for this renewal?

Almost 1 week later and you still have not decided what you will be doing when not sleeping. It seems there will be nothing you will be doing.

So you would rather spend time proving someone wrong in the internet than sleeping? Do you learn anything when you argue in the internet?
