why do we revel in kicking people when they are down? Boni amekufanyia nini?
Commodus, Roman emperor in the 2nd century CE is said to have caused the decline of the Roman empire from "an age of Gold to an age of iron and rust". He was the only emperor to succeed his father in a longtime and was the only emperor to succeed his father after his own father had succeeded his grandfather as emperor.
A good warrior, popular leader his reign would have progressed memorably had he not engaged in unnecessary and irreputable activities.
He not only organised but took part in gladiatorial combats. Gladiatorial combats were of course the preserve of slaves and brutes, not emperors. He fought dressed as Apollo and Hercules, fashioning himself as a god. On one such occasion he is reputed to have killed 100 lions, 3 elephants, a giraffe and an ostrich.
The Roman senatorial upper classes hated him for bringing disrepute to the position of emperor and ultimately assassinated him.
Boniface Mwangi, a well accomplished activist, fighter for justice, anti corruption and human rights. Not many knew or cared that he did not finish high school. Most respected him for the fierce activist that he was.
Then he sat for KCSE exams. An unnecessary activity suited for Kenyan youth without a career or reputation to safeguard.
Just like Commodus' gladiatorial exploits reduced him to laughing stock of Rome and cost him his life, BM's KCSE score reduces him to a loud mouth with nothing between his ears and may as well cost him his career as a civil rights activist.
A man driven by instinct and raw primal energy rather than intellect and bravery.
My embellished opinion.
Life is short. Live passionately.
