Binyavanga thread moves me!

The idea that African homosexuality was a colonial import is a myth.

Closer Home, My people still practice some form of lesbianism where an older (usually barren) woman marries a young lady. The children of the union are referred to as children of Shush.

If you say being gay is not African, you don’t know your history.

Your lesbian people ..... you know for a fact that they have sexual trysts with each other, as you understand lesbianism to be?

@T-bag, your name reminds me one Tv-series called Prison Break. That chap's roles was a bit nasty and awful. Is that where you got your motivation of the name?

Anyway, African tradition where woman married a woman was not lesbianism. It was a socially-approved way for a woman to take over the social and economic roles of a husband and father.

Quote:
If a woman has never had any children, she takes on what is regarded as the male role in a marriage, providing a home for the younger woman, who is then encouraged to take a male sexual partner from her partner's clan to become pregnant.

In other words, to sustain the family lineage, or patriline, and was a way to work around the problem of infertility or a lack of male heirs.

@Alpha don't get me wrong, I believe homosexuality goes against the natural order of things and purpose to which some organs were created, for that reason I choose to be straight, it is like eating through your nose... yes I feel straight T-Bag or not! However, I despise societies that condemn other's sexuality based on personal religious persuasions; what if the people involved do not subscribe to your believe system and rules? is anyone allowed to judge?

Many vinyavangas suffer stigma and other social discrimination.., this allow me to disagree. It should be a personal choice like a choice not to sin and hope to go to heaven.

Many hetero-fornicate but are not condemned in the same vigor and passion, sin is sin no matter what!

You are free to come out of the closet. We shall not judge.
