very simple imminent rights issue and share dilution has spooked shareholders...

i plan to become a shareholder by end of next week because there is too much value at these levels and it is still cum div

Got rid of half of my holdings at 30 bob and sold the other half after the rights at 25.

Since then I've never looked at KCB again.

I'm waiting for this rights that are coming to cause whatever dilution and once the dust has settled, get back in.

I'm sure at that time the returns from regional expansion(after investing the capital raised from the first rights) will have started trickling in consistently. This will push the stock upwards, even if slightly.

But before the pressure to yield on investment made using capital raised from the coming rights(or if the new investments post negative returns),I will bail out, watch from the sidelines and re-strategise.

Any Scrip whether KCB or any other bank, price appreciation stops when comes to public with a right at a lower value. moreover right issue is a real big one. One must sell now and pick after ex- rights.

If it drops to around Ksh12 ex rights, then I'll think about it for pure speculation. Not an invesment vehicle when compared to other bank stocks imho.

Martin Oduor's contract extendended to 2013.
Don't know if that is good or bad since although he has managed to "grow" the bank, many shareholders don't seem to be too pleased with the share.

In 3 years... KCB has done much worse than its competitors/peers like BBK or SCBK...

The only bank worse up than KCB is CFC-Stanbic...

So I cant say oduor deserves this extension...

what is the logic in selling and then coming bak ex rights? how many shares wld such a person get ex rights? and does this person know at hw much the share will trade? if one was to hold, participate in rights and then gather more ex rights, imho that wld be wiser.

I have had an unfruitful affair with KCB for 3yrs! I refused to sell when it hit 33 because I was accumulating long-term. I sold my most recent rights!

Now, am thinking of exiting, but wont let go of the stock as it is a growth company!

This time around I will change strategy. Qn is, all stocks are going North, so when profits n gains are taken elsewhere what will people consider fairly-priced to buy? I think, KCB and KPLC will be among the few discounted shares to buy. So staying put, gives me a foot in the door for that time. Yet, I worry that KCB hardly appreciates at current volume, why should that change at double the volume? Mhhhh, just thought to share my dilemma.

And frankly, I thought it was high time Oduor exited, after successful expansion, to bring in a new broom for "cutting waste", consolidation, efficiency and "profiteering".

I have looked at this stock and I still believe it has a lot of potential with 35 billion in idle cash. Am attending the AGM today then make my decision

Is Oduor-Otieno worth another 3 years? IMHO, no...

@Empty hand,

You are not alone. Me thinks, there is still potential with KCB. At current prices of 22-23, it is a gift so I accumulate. when the dust has settled after the rights business I will be 30% or thereabouts richer.

At 13:30, 1.6 million on offer against 300k, price down 3%. Qn. how far south can this counter go?

those who attended AGM, what is the story about rights? or is it bonus?

Wah, just back from the AGM and am truly disappointed.
Shareholders complained about the usual low dividends, no goddies at the AGM and of course the rude staff at KCB branches and a lot of time was given to this.
On the more serious business on the rights issue, shareholders were asked to propose and second the resolutions. Job Kihumba was called as an "expert" to guide shareholders and he just gave basics of what a rights issue is. The chairman wanted to roll up the meeting and asked for a proposer until one smart shareholder shot up to ask two questions of the day
1. The effect of issuing so many shares and the dilution of shareholder value
2. Does the board have a plan B if the rights issue does not succeed
Basically M.D. answered that the company needs to grow and if shareholders want it to grow they have to support it and shareholders should invest long-term. What i got was "take it or leave it". Well he didn't answer the second question. He also said they will issue bonds at a later stage. I got the feeling that the board is not reading the mood of the shareholders who need value for their investment.

I have now made my decision i will exit half of my portfolio ex div next week and the other half cum rights. I think they are better opportunities out there.

I believe KCB has potential in the long term. Good to hold on until the rights issue and if it goes low, buy more.

...100 years from now people shall still be talking about kcb's unrealized potential...
