KenyaRe will experience intense competition over starting 2011 as compulsory cession ends...

I know Jubilee (among other local insurers) have an interest in a Re-insurance firm (Africa-Re or East Africa Re?) & will divert their re-insurance...

Also expect (East)Africa-Re to be more pro-active in finding new clients...

@VVS the one owned by Jubilee, Lion of Kenya and others is East Africa Re who have been battling to have Kenya Re cession removed. Africa Re and PTA Re were established by government groupings and have compulsory % of 5% and 10%

Competition for Ex-Kenya Re compulsory business is also expected from international firms such as SwissRe and MunichRe who are often the leaders in reinsurance programs and have higher capacity.

Not to forget is that Kenya Re still carries baggage from the old compulsory system where it had a share of all the direct market business - Think of all unresolved or in court matatu/bus accidents liabilities for the 90's.

Kenya Re 18%, plus PTA Re 10%, plus Africa Re 5%, plus East AFrica Re 0%. So that means 33% of business is compulsory? Why didn't East Africa Re lobby for a share?

I'm guessing the rest of the 67% is shared amongst the same players as well. Why not also remove concessions for Africa and PTA/ZEP Re? Really level the playing field.

@scubidu - EA-Re is private... And you know how GoK hates private enterprises... No kickbacks for GoK 'employees'!

Effing bastards... Well, at least EA-Re can go for the Kenya-Re business...

I am selling out of my Kenya-Re...

i also sold out because my investment was strictly short term...

lets think about it... this is a company that has failed to grow profits with all these compulsry cessions... does any long term holder of this stock how they are going to grow profits...

if one wants to play the future growth of insurance then jubilee is far better...
