how much do you spend on calls per month?

what wld be the effect of an underdog mobile company introducing a product where with only 700 bob per month you can make unlimited calls to its network?

I think that would be an interesting move but they better be having a lot of money to keep the company afloat as kenyans 'think' if they 'feel' like moving or not.... Kenyan's have many peculiar habits and one of them is the calling patterns... sometimes you do not know what keeps them holding on to a certain company... for instance,the other mobile companies have not had such a big impact on the subscribers of Safaricom as we would have expected despite such attractive offers.. majority are still stuck with expensive,conjested,confusing safcom tarrifs - yet,some of those who have moved,have held on to their safaricom lines and use them onces in a while.... you wonder why??? Am not a shareholder but am a member and i still ask myself why i shouldnt move and I have no concrete reason,yet,am not moving. I dont know whether 'price/cost' is a motivation par se.

@ wendz,

you see 98 contacts out of 100 in your phone book subscribe to the same network (safaricom)...you move to another network and you will pay much more to call the 98% in safcom and viseversa.

it will not help alot...

700/- is still too high for majority of mobile phone owners....

i am sure majority of kenyans spend less than 200/- p.m...

@kaigangio

But with Ongea before it was made more complicated,you called safcom numbers @8bob,other subscribers @16 or so. With Vuka,its 8bob to everyone and you can add those family number and call @3 bob or so... so still cheaper even if 98% are in other networks.

And why cant the 98% others or at least 50% or that,move too.... wouldnt it be cheaper for everyone???... hehehehe

The trick is so look beyond your own network.

@mlefu,I think yu has a plan like that. I am on pre-paid but pay 7.50 to any network. On yu-yu I get 12 mins for 20/-.

I think the key here is the lock in safcom has on its customers in value ad-ons like mpesa,okoa jahazi et al and yeah the 20bob scratch card.

However it is also worth noting that even if calling someone on safcom can be 7.50 or even 5 bob for that matter,the reverse is 16bob which means that one maintains the safcom line. 1 Peculiar habit i have observed is if i need stuff from you,i will call you on the lowest possible tarrif (most likely you r on safcom) and let you know that u can call me on safcom coz it may cost u double to get back to me on the line i called you on & i want to remove any possible barriers that may hamper you calling back!!!
