Hi good guys,

Anyone have an estimate on how much a km costs on a 2500cc petrol SUV like a Pajero GLX or a Prado.
Running costs only i.e petrol, tyres, wear & tear, service. Do not include fixed costs like cost of car (depreciation, loan), insurance.

Your input will be MUCH appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

I will give you an example of a ‘friends’ diesel landcruiser/prado.

Normal fuel expense per month is around 20K, car only used in Nairobi (Soccer Moms), Service every 3-4 months of about 15K, major issues have been proactively replacing tires after 3 years (100K), brake pump failure (200K!) and new springs (30K); and a perennial a/c leak that was easier to refill the gas than sort out (laziness)40,000

That brings the total bill per year to
Fuel 20,000 x 12 = 240,000
Service 15,000 x 4 = 60,000
A/C 40,000/2 = 20,000 (only over 2 years)
Parts Prorated for Year (200,000+100,000+30,000)/3 = 110,000

Total/year = 430,000
Month approx. 36K

P/S

This is a town car

For a Range Rover, add a “Zero” to the figures/hesabus

@MatataMingi, Actual running costs are easy to work out. Just open an excel sheet, list the items, costs and hulla!, you have the actual running costs. For estimates, any reliable auto website will provide you with manufacturers standards, which may not apply in this part of the wild where the variables are unpredictable

My 1 cent

Is this advice based on an assumption that he already has the car or he is looking into buing a car?
If he is planning to buy a car;How on earth he will be able to tell the km/litre, frequency of parts replacement, cost of parts if he doesn't have the car?

Let him go to AA as advised by @Thegeek

An average of about 20-25K Km/Y, since the service intervals have been replaced by dates (every 3 months-ish) as opposed to every 5K KMs or so.
