i really do wonder how much impact the world cup will have on KQ's financials... there is so much hype but i'm not sure if its too much hype...

@ guru theres some sense thru that hype...some wc fans will be rerouted via nbo to jhb...with the rebound global economy & surge in oil prices the hedges will work out fine...the mngmnt is also wiser now when it comes to hedges...@ subaru the plane aint taking off...u cant leave me behind...lol.

@the deal thats exactly my point.. if read your post carefully you will notice that you have attributed KQ's recovery more to hedge gains and a rebound in the global economy which i totally agree with...

i think we are all aware that there will be plenty of other carriers flying to and from SA for the world cup....

My question is... is the world cup ALONE going to add lets say 500 million to KQ's PAT

Ideally, passengers flying KQ would pass through Nairobi & think of either staying longer to see what Kenya is all about OR think of returning to Kenya...

Lakini, with our crappy as shit airport (JKIA)... Not many would want to venture out!!!

@guru267,

Very very interesting.............

How did you arrive at 500M?

If KQ does not experience any major disruptions over the WC period........that is the figure offcourse give or take about 100M.

isn't 100M relatively insignificant considering that this copmany posted 4.8billion P.B.T before the financial crisis???

LOL... 100mn aint much for KQ but @pierce was saying 400-600mn...

In any event, I will take any of the extra whether significant or not...

According to my broker... KQ has confirmed 4 June as date of release of 2009-10 financial results...

Typical is the Friday during the week of 30 May which is 4 June 2010

@VVS,

On a separate note, why is the price fast approaching the price I bought at(50)?

Have you read the article on Nation's Smart Business by one Chris Harrison on the Doula tragedy? As much as I agree with him, and a confessed addict of his column, this one sounded a bit personal but in this day and age what isn't?

Happy reading!smile

BBI will solve it

Pierce, that's a very distressing question coming from you!Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly
You are the KQ optimist, investor and crusader per excellence. Now you don't know what is happening? We are finished!!! LOLest. Just messing with you.

On a lighter note, maybe you are being given a chance to get some more shares. You better place another buy order at 50/= and cross your fingers.
Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

@pierce - Why? I have no idea... lakini I have an order in to top up at 50/-... My earlier buy-in price was 43/- lakini about 1 week ago, I sat down & looked through the numbers...

The NAV is 43/- as of 30 Sep 2010. There will be gains in fuel hedges thus upping the NAV. The 2H (4Q) passenger & cargo numbers are better than last year.

Future: There are losses for 6 days due to the volcanic ash BUT some of these were recovered i.e. passengers flew just late/r. Same with some (not all) cargo.

KQ remains dominant in South & Central Africa. SAA is formidable BUT it is concentrating on WC2010 not expansion at the moment. Also SAA is government controlled thus zuma's buddies & family will be running the show. Bad for SAA, good for KQ.
