We have conflicting reports about who ordered closure of video and DSTV dens in north eastern province. The North Eastern Provincial Commissioner James Ole Serian has denied reports that Muslim clerics have banned movie theatres and DSTV channels in Mandera town. (EASTANDARD....
DStv has been banned in North Eastern Province by the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims. Also outlawed are video dens, blamed for eroding moral values among the youth and causing poor academic performance.(DN)
As these reports continue to flood our minds lets hope this is not a sign of things to come and that it remains the only confusion we shall have to endure as we count down to the referendum

I listened to the nation's new yesterday. Robert Nagila said at the end of that story that in an interview with the SUPKEM Mandera branch chairman, the man had said he had ordered the closure.
Obviously the PC's and SUPKEM hq version is a cover-up after "sh*t hit the fan", but we expect more now from them.

Smacks of damage control attempt.

A sort of quick exercise to contain the public mood.

Let us not just consume what we hear on TV without investigating further.

Have a look at this article which clears the whole issue.

http://allafrica.com/stories/201004270964.html

Below is the most interesting bit.

"I want to clarify a report appearing in both the local print and broadcast media that alleged that Sheikhs closed DSTv and video dens in Mandera. The truth is that the Mandera district security committee met in September last year and resolved to close all video dens," the administrator said in a message sent out to the media.

According to Mr Seriani, the district security committee was targeting halls that show immoral videos, those that hide criminals and aliens, those that admit school children when they are supposed to be in school and those that operate without license or sell drugs.

Tip of an iceberg indeed....as more room is given, soon they will ban music stations, then enforce dress codes etc....have u heard they are proposing to ban miraa and alcohol sale in NEP too?

wrong action, at the wrong time.

Dont listen to me though, am just extrapolating the graph...

Kenya is NOT a secular state, well there is only one state religion, Islam. Sponsored by the government (my taxes) and enshrined in the constitution.

What is this talk that "the kadhis courts are in the old constitution"...well we want them out!!! what is sooooo hard understanding there. Ati if we vote NO they will remain there, so lets vote NO so it can penetrate their (politicians and COE Commission of Elitist) thick skulls that we do not want them! or remove them now before we vote NO. The tide is turning, check the comments on nation on the dstv issue. And when the funding to fight this kadhis courts comes in, you will be in for a shock!

I am not sure what to say but the clergy been raising this issue about Kadhis courts since 2005.

I think we need to take a listen plus, why do some people talk as if consensus ever hurt anyone? going ahead with this thing when we know that Kenya is actually a majority Christian country is ill-advised. I am pleading ignorance ( before everyone comes out calling me names) but i think this katiba hype ( that we NEED it NOW) has been blow out of proportion
