Well what to say about Ayana, i will be surprised if she doped - i think she just had too much in the tank for the rest, i feel for Vivian Cheruiyot.
On the 7's well am not surprised because i don't think they were mentally prepared for the olympics. Until Benja and Co attend technical classes like for 6 months on coaching we will always have this erratic results. In this case Kenyans tried to fall back on their natural athletisism instead of what they had been training and when that happens your goose is cooked. But it was clear they were not prepared.
I have been fortunate to visit the Nike Oregon project where Mo trains and the facilities are a sight to behold and i quickly realised it will take a monumental effort to defeat MO. To put it into context Mo came last in 2008 and 4 years later won gold - so what happened? The Oregon project has added technical bits to long distance training. i.e. Mo has a small oxygen chamber that only fits his head that he sleeps in - to recreate the high altitude in Iten and Addis. Half of his training is done in an underwater treadmill to create strength and speed (hence the kick) The advantage he has over the rest is so huge hence why they can never have a sniff at him. My question is why can't Tanui and the rest move to Oregon?
For me by far the most exciting has been the swimming, am a big fan of the American teenage sensation Katie Ledecky, Missy Franklin has been below par however in the US they have this swimming centres littered round the country and the focus is and always will be technique. It was fascinating to see - they are not interested in times but from the blocks, the angle of entry in the water, optimum amount of dolphin kicks, the turn simply amazing, maen we have a long way and we may have natural athletes but we stand no match with the technical nature of the sport. Same case with the British in Rowing (these are Cambridge/Oxford boys and both in Cambridge and Oxford they have rowing labs that have perfected the art of rowing.
The greatest danger in times of turbulence is not the turbulence; it is to act with yesterday's logic.
