Thrilled Kisumu shoppers have since Tuesday visited Kenyatta Avenue's new Naivas supermarket not to shop but to go up and down the escalators, the first ever in the city.

Naivas unveiled the new supermarket on Tuesday, residents from all walks of life flocking to it as soon as news of 'rolling stairs hit the streets'.

Adventurous shoppers made straight for the escalators to get a feel of them, the skeptical lot observing from a safe distance. There was drama as both the young and old slipped and fell. Some struggled to show their 'prowess' in using the escalators, relatives and friends cheering them on to the staff's utter surprise.

“This machine is God-sent to this town. We are happy to have it in Kisumu for the first time,” a shopper, Michael Omondi, said.

Quite hilarious, I also can't forget the 1st time I used escalators was at The Mall in Westlands when it was just opened either in 1990 or 1991.

Regina Atieno had visited the outlet with her three year-old daughter: “My daughter says I better bring her to Naivas instead of taking her to the usual children swings in the town,” she said. - See more at: http://www.the-star.co.k...h.t8v6ai7T.HZUGYSmU.dpuf

There was however a group of elite shoppers who showed off going by how easily they used the escalators, and the ‘swag’ they displayed while seemingly giving the others disapproving stares. -

Kisumu declared the first jam-free city in Kenya, thanks to bypasses built by Ohuru. And why is baba saying jubilee has not done anything since getting to power?

Even the bypasses were designed by Jomo Kenyarra in 1973. So all credit should go to Jomo.

Jam free?? Rubbish!!Sad Get caught between Ahero and Nyamasaria in the evenings. I think this ought to be a dual carriage all the way to the Kisii junction
Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

In the evenings traffic is mostly due to the police roadblock hapo where the dual-road ends at Nyamasaria and tuktuks that ply Kisumu-Ahero route. Those tuktuks are slow and often stop on the road shoulder to drop or pick. The police careless!!

The worst area, I think is Kondele roundabout and adjoining roads. All these, I can attribute to poor driving culture nothing related to the road network.
