I have read somewhere that KENGEN has finally switched off the "expensive" Aggreko diesel generators in Muhoroni and replaced them with "cheaper" Gas fired turbine generators...

Does that statement make sensible economic sense?

Now Kenya does not produce natural gas so the Gas turbines will most likely be fired from the same diesel fuel the Aggreko ICE were using...we cannot also use cheap HFO since we dont have crude oil locally available cheaply.

Techinically, comparing an apple for an apple, Gas turbines are more hungry than ICE when using the same type of fuel.

ounce for ounce gas has more energy to it than the "crude" form of oil used in power generation, gas is also cleaner to burn, more efficient as most is turned to heat energy.
