CFC is in competition with other banks making money and reporting profit growth, this one is a mess, what have they been doing? i suspect the rise and easy availability of personal loans has affected its "motor vehicle financing" which is what i knew it for. This is a lost bank running amok looking for direction (BTW Finding this banks branches wherever they are is like looking for a needle in a haystack, so they still need to spend more)maybe it will report good earnings five years from now. My valuation of this share is 18/-

K Mbathi is heading CFC Stanbic? then all hope is not lost, this guy put Stanbic Uganda on the right path from a parastatal to profit making machine... that said, Uganda's market dynamics are a tit different from Kenya's. FY09 results showed massive profit margins for Ugandan banks compared to Kenyan counterparts.

Stanbic Uganda bought UCB on the cheap so there was no way to go but up. Not so sure about the CFC-Stanbic merger though.

the market must be pegging this years profit recovery against a recovery at the NSE...

another thing we must remember is that many of the costs were once off cost that wont appear on the P&L this year...

..may b its just because nobody really undestands whats goin on with cfc thus choosing to wait and see. I'd be apprehensive about assuming price behaviour as stamp of authority on company's overall performance. just me.

Should the restructuring and listing of the bank and insurance separate sail through, we might see another round of "one off" restructing costs.

there is profitabl diversification..and then there's the stuff Peter Lynch christened Deworsification.. cfc stanbic is part of the later.. as per results so far..
the only prudent reason you have in holding it is by what mukiha is going on.
...bank on the spin off. seperate listing of Liberty...benefit that accrue to current share holder of overall CFC Stanbic

The insurance business is set for listing [by introduction - as happened to Equity Bank] by mid year.

The stock is holding strong - close up 75cts today @44.75. It appears that there are many people following my way of thinking: there was no sudden drop even with a 95% drop in profits

Touched 46 today then eased back to 45. Demand is still healthy. No foreigners playing here

......and have seen the sister CMC touching 14 bob today?

@Mukiha,

I think 50 is too low for CFC. It should trade at no less than 100. You better pick a few.

During the major bear period, CFC was beaten to about 40. when recovery came, it was the only stock that did not appreciate. The re-organization going on at the bank should yield positive signals to the shareholders.

Buy buy buy. This bank will give the sweetest returns in the sector. Dont expect dividends any time soon though

@Sparkly,

I am looking at a timeframe of 1 year. Only capital growth is what I want. I am buying at any price below 50.

Happy investing

@PKoli; I have quite a number - about 20% of my portfolio - purchased over the last 30months.

65% of the holding was bought at above sh50 and 35% below sh50. My average purchase price is sh69. I continue buying when I have spare cash and the market price is below my average.

Right now, I am considering take some profit from Mumias [not the full holding] and throwing it into CFC...

Today, it opened at 47; I am happy and sad at the same time.

Happy that the only red spot in my portfolio is inching towards green; and sad that I might miss the opportunity to increase my holding in the same.... but such is life

Today CFC is what KQ was 24 after staying at 20 for a while. Destination is 100 or thereabouts, so you be looking at a return of over 30%.

You still have an opportunity.

@Mukiha,

Sell some bit of Mumias and increase CFC. At the current prices, CFC could give 100% returns, MSC I doubt 30% more

@PKoli; CLICK HERE

That has been my strategy all along... include also EQTY for which I have placed a sell order at 20.... but now I see it has eased back to 18.50.

All the purchases in CFC have been made using profits taken in various counters; you might recall me saying that I'm using "free money"
