Watch NTV @ 9 same old same old...NCPB is not taking anymore maize...pure wastage.

Why don't the millers buy the maize directly and bring the price of unga down? Does all the maize have to go thro Ncpb?

And who said millers are not buying directly from the farmers?Enda unga and pember factories and see how long the quees are for maize.

The problem is that most farmers who take to NCBP are small scale(less than 100 bags of maize) yet most many of the millers are located in Nairobi,Mombasa and Nakuru. So the transportation costs becomes higher thus why the farmers sell to the brokers who in turn sell to the millers directly
If Obiero did it, Who Am I?

What will matter most is storage. What are the plans?

True...sometime back there was some bumper harvest in one of this irrigation schemes and most of the food went to waste.

The biggest problem with gok is that when it thinks about food, it just thinks about maize. What about wheat, rice, potato etc. Even other crops such as soybean, canola, sugarbeet, barley, cotton, sorghum, millet etc should be promoted to reduce reliance on imports of products eg cooking oil, sugar etc.

Very true. Some time last year I watched a CNN programmer about a Scottish company that makes wine from potatoes and I couldn't help thinking of out potatoes which rot in the farms of Nyahururu due to inaccessible roads whenever it rains.
