And replaced with what???

They needed to experiment to know this was a Bullcrap idea?? Haki Kenya kuna mchezo!

Effective when?? Kama mtu yuko na ka prado high seas, hatalipa a ka lose 200k??

Back to the old 20% of value. Kama zamani.

Might have to do with a 24% drop in car imports Jan-Apr 2016 compared to 2015.

Kenyans are quite price sensitive. Government learning how much so.

But it would have at least made people buy cars that are have already been used in Kenya and learn to maintain and give them some TLC. We would have people driving nice looking and we'll maintained KVJs like they do in Cuba. Sio ma KCF kila mahali!!!
Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

I thought so...which had led to reduction in taxes. The other reasons given in the budget was just a smoke screen.

The increase in fuel levy from shs 12 to shs 18 is the trick for this year. It is the surest way to collect more taxes

True that, we used to go through a No. Plate series in 3-4 months. KCF(V) was in November last year and we are just starting KCH now...

Instead of allowing the local 2nd- (I mean 3rd-) hand cars to become more expensive, the Gov't would rather continue with the old Tax regime and get more taxes.

Ignore the nonsense about pro-poor vs pro-rich, these guys are not interested in that stuff

A nissan teanna 2009 model buying at a cost of 400,000 from japan I'll end up paying 450,000 taxes and if I add the clearing agent fee it will be 500,000!!!!! Value of taxes is more price of the car ? Kweli this is a tax financed economy

I used the calculator from KRA website today for a
Toyota Corolla Fielder Date January 2009
Depreciation 70% <---was auto generated
Engine capacity 1490 <-- was auto generated
And the following was the output:
Question:

1.) The excise duty shows 200,000k. Is this normal? If they removed 200k excise tax, shouldn't ' it be lower?
2.) what is custom value vs VAT value?

Current Retail Selling Price (CRSP) KSh 2,450,000.00
Custom Value KSh 337,931.03
Import Duty KSh 84,482.76
Excise Duty KSh 200,000.00
VAT Value KSh 622,413.79
VAT Duty KSh 99,586.21
Total Taxes KSh 384,068.97
Import Declaration Fee (IDF) KSh 7,603.45
Railways Development Levy KSh 5,068.97
Registration Fee KSh 7,360.00
Total Amount KSh 404,101.38
Grand Total Port Charges KSh 27,787.00
MSS Levy (Maritime Surcharge Levy) KSh 1,681.00
Clearing & Freight Forwarding Cost KSh 15,000.00
Shipping Delivery Order Fee KSh 8,401.00
Estimated Total Cost Of Duty & Clearing KSh 456,970.3

Used the new valuation template to calculate duty for a Hilux Surf landing this week. Duty comes to 466,500 at 70% depreciation.
