It depends on what you want (solid research, good online trading platform, responsive brokers, pretty receptionists, etc.) and if you want stocks and bonds or just stocks. That said, I think Kestrel is probably the best overall but you have to have Shs 5 million minimum to open an account. Otherwise, I have used SBG and Dyer & Blair and both are pretty good. Cost across all brokers is similar, but some charge monthly account maintenance fees, so ask upfront. Just my opinion. Others will have their own preferences.

Does the broker guide you on what to buy/sell or the decision is all yours?

Noted that SBG charge 100/- for every transaction over and above the normal charges, I am not sure they charge monthly fees.

SBG adopted agency model sometimes back. You will in essence be served by the likes of Centsavvy, Investax Capital etc. This might explain what @Maka noted with regard to staff turnover. On the other hand if you are tech savvy just use their online platform and you will never deal with a soul.

I strongly recommend Kingdom Securities..they have greatly improved their services by embracing technology. First, they have a very reliable OST platform. Second, its very simple to deposit your cds account via Mpesa and its updates automatically without contacting them. And lastly, alerts(sms and emails) for all transactions in your account.........
Gone are the days when one had to make several calls and write many emails to be offered service.

Automatic update to CDSC account when loading through Mpesa happens across the board.

Okay..that is a very subjective performance metric that is hard to substantiate...Atleast you could have vouched for their new smart phone trading app.

Some brokers will try to sell you on a given stock. Others with a research team will put out research with a recommendation (buy, hold, sell, etc.). In my opinion, take broker research as an input but not the deciding factor. Do your own analysis and invest accordingly if you can. If you can't, you are better off putting your money into a managed fund. Please do not take that as an insult, I am just trying to say that despite what you may see in this forum, picking winners is not easy. Don't risk money you can't afford to lose.

@Researchfirst I have 100% agreed to your advice. Own analysis can make you a fortune.
