Wedding shows will require licensing before airing on local television, the Kenya Film Classification Board has said.

Chief executive Ezekiel Mutua said on Saturday that permits will be issued for shows that are successfully examined.

“Wedding programmes for TV broadcast will be submitted to us for examination and rating,” Mutua said, adding the permits will be free of charge.

Music producers and videographers will also obtain filming licences from the board.

The agency that regulates films in Kenya has associated the ongoing unrests in schools across the country with the use of hard drugs and alcohol among the youth.

Films classification board CEO Ezekiel Mutua on Wednesday said that the escalating use of drugs had a connection with increased exposure to alcohol ads.

"Those burning schools are operating under the control of drugs," Mutua said.

"The country is burning and we cannot sit back as leaders and allow the youth to be influenced to use harmful substances through advertisements," he said.
