The 6.55 portion goes directly to KENGEN

why invest in a share at 6.55 and then sell at 3 bob and the company is making profits?

The people to be diluted are those who will not defend their rights. It doesn't make sense for them to sell at 4 bob when they were diluted at 6.55 and the true value of the share is north of 20 bob. But hey markets are ruled by emotion, nothing is impossible

Alcohol manufacturer turns to solar power to stem costs

http://www.businessdaily...4/-/dmkht0/-/index.html

KPLC will definitely take a hit as more folks turn to solar installed at their premises be they home-owners using solar to heat their water or factories installing solar roofs to provide power for lighting & even manufacturing.

Will KenGen suffer from lower sales (or expansion)?

This is HUGE!

"...power bill from electricity distributor Kenya Power is in excess of Sh60 million annually"

"looking to save Sh18 million in power costs annually for at least 25 years with the installation of solar panels on its factory's rooftops in Athi River."

"...the company would recoup the initial investment in solar energy in six years."

"The cost-cutting drive has also led the firm to construct a biogas plant fed with molasses waste to generate electricity, saving it Sh10 million annually"

" Tightlipped about the cost...and runs parallel to the electricity grid." Seems to be more of a backup. KenGen injects cheap geothermal power to the grid. As long as it continues to do so n the setup costs for solar power remains prohibitive, it's still in business.

Now even 'retail' customers are getting into the energy business. This is for those in rural areas.

It seems the idea is that KPLC becomes the back-up coz the solar generation, despite its cost, is saving them money or they would not have installed it.

Anyway, good luck with all the new projects to inject more power into the system. I hope the large industrial consumers are there to take up the new supply.

We are still consuming very little power as compared to some developed nations. 1500MW demand while South Africa says 45,000MW is not enough. I still see lots of room for growth. Solar still cannot be stored in humongous quantities and its great for those companies with lots of idle land.

Is solar power ideal for power hungry industrial processes? Even in home settings, it's mainly used for the lights. Solar power is a supplementary option. N do we have batteries that can store that much power. Last I heard, Elon Musk was still working on that

Power supply still low compared to demand. We had rationing just a few years ago. Kenya power connecting the rural areas, emergency diesel power still runs at peak demand.

No-one is planning to store 'solar power' [the Sun is going to be around for much longer than we are] and electricity whether generated by solar power or geothermal power is expensive to store. The reason why, despite political hot air, thermal power is attractive is the ability to cycle up or down the thermal generation units to match demand.

The roof-top solar panels are quite attractive to manufacturing/commercial/warehousing firms that have these rooftops in sunny Kenya.

It's estimated that Nairobi has 250-300 days of 'sunny' weather. I believe other areas eg Machakos or Kajiado may have 'sunnier' weather than Nairobi. The efficiency of solar panels (conversion ratio) keeps on increasing as technology improves. The cost of conversion is also decreasing as solar panels become cheaper thanks to technology.

Can solar panels REPLACE electricity generated by geothermal/thermal/hydro? NO.

Can solar panels REDUCE the need/requirement for electricity generated by geothermal/thermal/hydro? YES.

If you do get the info, please do share. The chaps installing the 'new solar roofs' must have done the mathematics. Of course, not all such deals/investments work out but with new tech & manufacturing efficiency the cost per kW generated by solar panels is dropping rapidly.

Can solar panels REPLACE all the electricity generated by geothermal/thermal/hydro? NO.

1. BULLSHIT.
2. Very smart if they trade carbon credits to offset/subsidize/reduce the cost of power generated by 'clean' sources. Doesn't KenGen also have similar plans?

Why would any firm/investor go through the hassle of spending/investing money in a venture if they don't expect a payback?

SOLAR SYSTEM SIZING

Get the most out of your money

Many people have decided to buy solar systems based on their personal presciptions without any technical advice and have either lost interest in solar systems or wasted valued time and money

At Next Generation Technologies we help you not only to get the right size of a system but also the longlasting solution which other wise you would not get

When sizing a solar system the following need to be taken into consideration!

· Inverter size
To determine the inverter size we must find the peak load or maximum wattage of your home. This is found by adding up the wattage of the appliances and devices that could be run at the same time. Include everything from microwaves and lights to computers and clocks. The sum will tell you which inverter size you need.

· Daily energy use
Next find the energy used in a day. Figure out how long each electronic device will be run in hours during a day. Multiply the wattage of each device by its run-time to get the energy in watt-hours per day. Add up all the watt-hour values to get a total for your home.

· Days of autonomy
Now decide how many days worth of energy you want to store in your battery bank. Generally this is anywhere from two to five. This is important for days that are less sunny

Battery bank capacity
Finally we can calculate the minimum battery AH capacity. Take the watt-hours per day and multiply them by the number you decided upon in 3. This should represent a 50% depth of discharge on your batteries. There for the battery capacities also determine the size of panels and how many watts we need to charge our battery bank.
At NextGeneration Technologies we take the time to inspect your home and look at your appliances and calculate the wattage needed before quoting for you!

Our site inspections are free and we go any where as long as you have a solar energy need!

Packages:

A System that suppots TV,8 lights,phone chae at 1500,000UGX

A System that suppots TV,12 lihts,DVD Player,Decode, at 2600,000UGX

A System that suppots TV 16 lihts DD,Decorder at 3,600,000UGX

A System that can suppot a Fridge,TV,Decorder,20 lights,phone charge at 6,400,000UGX

We also can design a system tailored to your needs, for instance you may need a system that supports your surface water pump for an underground tank!

Exactly my point. KenGen is still far off from being SIGNIFICANTLY affected by solar power.
